Everything was dark, but things sure weren't silent. Though the sky seemed dead with the lack of stars due to light pollution, the city was bustling with life with cars honking and people passing each other on the sidewalks for nights out. The air was considerably much cooler than it was earlier in the day, and it felt amazing on Levi's skin as he walked through the area to head home. It had been a long day at work, and since he was too poor to afford a car at the moment, he was usually caught walking home alone at night.
Levi wasn't stupid, though. He took the more well known streets, steering away from any back streets that could have potentially dangerous people lurking. He usually passed many shops on his way home, along with gas stations, and hotels.
The only downside to Levi's route was the placement of mansions close by. It angered him to have to walk so close to the people who lived in places such as that. Some were hard working people who own businesses and fought their way to the top to get to where they were at in life, but a majority of the people where what many referred to as heroes.
Heroes. He hated them. Some could be good people, but ever since the Forfeit Act was passed in the United States, they had become horrible and corrupted people. Many heroes only came from rich families who could afford to train and create gear to make them seem like something out of a D.C or Marvel comic book. They ruled the entire country, and others were slaves bending at their every will because of the stupid law. Levi hated them with every bone in his body.
He tried to stray away from those thoughts, though. Getting angry never really did much good for him. All it did was put him in a bad mood, which was pointless since he couldn't do anything about it. Levi made sure to keep those thoughts pushed out of his head as he continued his walk home. The bag that he used to keep his work scrubs in seemed to get heavier by the moment, so getting home was all he could really think about. -
Leo's father owned a large tech company located in the heart of town, they were a very located in a huge research building. Her father had always talked about this A.I. they had programed and that ran in a lot of the systems and such or... at least something like that. Unlike her father Leo has always had a strong dislike towards computers and never pried or even asked about her father's work but not all people believed that.
The house lights were dim and not well lit, the front of the house, like usual, was very lit and made it look like there were people up and about but for the most part that was very wrong. All of the other "saved" people that were in the house were locked up in the rooms for the night, all but her.
Leo laid on the ground, her head curled into her body she was trying to protect as much of her ribs and possible and she tried to protect her head at the same time. She tried to grip onto her hair but failed due to her new haircut, which left her with nothing to grab. Her body jerked around as kicks rained down at her, one kick forced her body to roll back onto her back. She looked up at her aggressor, the cso seemed to be enjoying this more than a person should. Leo looked over at the 'hero', who was way too obviously misnamed, fear was rolling off her in waves.
She yelped as the cso was tossed a bat, the metal clinked against the rings on his fingers. Leo pushed herself up and scrambled to move quickly, the bat clipped her leg making her faceplant into the ground. She pushed herself up again pushing off the ground and running as fast as she could. Running out of the room she bashed her shoulder into the frame making her stumble out into the hallway, she ran as fast as she could the hall getting dark before very, very bright. She stumbled into a table in the hall and heard a crash behind her knowing what broke she just kept running. She ran up to the door pulling to open she ducked the metal bat crashing against the door throwing splinters of the door every where. Leo screamed loudly, her voice scratchy and harsh, and then ran out of the house.
Leo knew that she had no one to help her, she knew she wasn't going to be saved. No one from the house could get out of the room they were in and even if they could they wouldn't help, none of the "heros" of the houses around would help and she didn't want them to anyway. She assumed that no one in a car or walking by would be dumb enough to interfere but if she got out and far enough maybe they'd stop chasing.
She stumbled off the front porch and down the stairs, she tried to run faster than what she was going but her legs weren't letting her. She almost reached the gate when someone grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled her back and her legs gave out and she flew back. A scream ripped through her lips and she heard it echo, she scream was cut short by her hitting the ground. She expected to look up and see the cso standing there but she was met with her "hero, he was sitting on top of her and pressed his hand against her throat.
She started struggling and kicking her feet, she grabbed at his hands scratching him as his grip tightened. She tried to scream or yell but it all came out in strangled noises and she choked on basically nothing. She tried to reach up to him before going back to his hands scratching and pulling at them as she thrashed around. He was speaking to her, screaming at her about something she couldn't hear mainly because she was scared for her life. -
Levi wondered what it would be like to see the stars in the city. He remembered in his home in Lithuania, he could go out into the woods where the lights were more dim and see countless stars shining up above him. Once he moved to America, though, there was none of that. Everything was blacked out; there was nothing.
Even if there was something, though, some sort of twinkling blanket of wonder up above him, Levi knew it wouldn't shake away the chills he got throughout his body upon hearing the most blood curdling scream he had heard in a long time. It was as if the rest of the world went silent to listen to the scream of a female ripping through the night air. It echoed off of the walls of his brain over and over and over, never ending. It continued, along with shouting of males and Levi knew just what was going on.
The big question was, should he go after the sound? Should Levi run after the screams to save whoever it was in distress? Should he be a hero? Or should he continue walking. Should he pretend he never heard a thing and be an average citizen with places to be and things to do? Levi knew that whatever he did, the starts would still shine the same.
They'd still be gone.
The screams weren't coming from just anywhere, though. It was down the streets that lead to the mansions; the mansions for all the heroes. This woman, whoever she was, wasn't being beaten up by some thugs, it was heroes. People who had saved her. People who were supposed to protect her instead of hurt her.
His conscious getting the best of him, Levi turned his course and quickly made his way down the street, trying his best too keep quiet and not alert any of the "heroes" along the way. Upon getting close enough, a scene lit up before him, thanks to a nearby street lamp.
There was a girl, around his age, beaten on the ground with shore hair and... that was all he could really make out. That was all he really cared about at that moment once he realized who was on top of her.
He was an older man, in his mid thirties, yet he still looked fairly young. He had dark features; tan skin, brown eyes, black hair, and all the rest. This man was massive as well, and it seemed as if the majority of his body weight was muscle instead of anything else. Levi knew exactly who he was, as well.
Crucible.
No one knew him by his real name, but Crucible was one of the most dangerous heroes out there, and certainly a force to be reckoned with. He was shouting incoherent threats at the girl on the ground, pinning her down so that she couldn't move at all. Levi hated this man and wanted nothing more than to walk over there and hurt him in any way possible, but he knew that he had to be smart about the situation. Going head on with one of the most powerful heroes in the city wasn't the smartest idea.
"Look, I realize you're new here, kid," Crucible said as he lowered his voice from shouting at her. "You still haven't learned the ropes yet. You're not in trouble, you didn't do anything wrong. But I have to make you afraid of me. Your life is forfeit, remember? I can't have you guys thinking you can do whatever you please from the get go! I could bash your head in with this bat if I so pleased!"
"So, it's a lie, then?" Levi spoke up as he walked closer to Crucible, the girl, and the others surrounding them.
For a moment everything fell silent and Crucible's brown eyes flickered away from the girl and up to Levi instead, a sort of blazing metallic fire in his eyes. "Excuse me?" he asked, though his voice carried a weight of sarcasm and a violent tone.
"People tell me that you can crush skulls with your bare hands," Levi spoke up simply. "But I guess they're lying if you say you'd use a bat to do that work instead."
(Sorry if this sucks it's like one thirty in the morning I'm tired haha) -
Leona struggled under her 'hero', her throat was tight and dry. Her body was heavy under the pressure. Her arms were heavy and hard to move but light at the same time, her eyes were heavy and wanting to close but the rest of her head was light and airy almost like a high. Her head and was sore and throbbing along with most of her body, her sight became clouded with black spots and she wasn't sure if it was the questionable lighting or the lack of air was getting to her. Blood was pounding through her ears so even though she could somewhat see the man's lips moving but couldn't hear him past her pounding ears.
Seconds seemed to be dragging on into minutes. When his hand loosened Leo gasped trying to suck as much air into her lungs as she could. Her body slumped against the ground but she tilted her chin up as if it get her more air. As her body calmed down she could hear people talking but wasn't paying any mind to them at the moment. She had her eyes closed trying to collect herself her chest heaving and her arms and legs limp at her sides. She could still feel the hand on her neck but it wasn't restricting her anymore.
After she calmed down a bit she looked up at the newcomer and she couldn't help her eyes widen in shock at the stranger, she wasn't sure who'd be that crazy but was extremely thankful. She dropped her head back onto the ground, she his a sore spot and whined quietly not wanting to draw attention back to her. She relaxed taking a few more breaths.
(Sorry this is is a little short. I just wanted to get this up before I finished up my chem homework.) -
Crucible paused for a moment at the man's word, ignoring everything else going on around him as if he was completely caught off guard. Levi had a slight accent and Crucible instantly caught on to this, becoming angry that someone that wasn't even from his own country was trying to talk down to him.
"Go away, kid," Crucible muttered. "This has nothing to do with you."
"Do you know what the definition of a hero is, Crucible?" Levi continued almost instantly as if Crucible had said nothing at all. "They are a person who is idolized for noble things. In other words, you're supposed to be saving people, not choking them and threatening their life."
At that point Crucible was becoming impatient and annoyed with the fact that someone much lower than him thought that he could just speak in whatever manner he pleased. Crucible pushed himself off of Leo, the bat still in his hand, and slowly walked up towards Levi.
"Look, kid, I own her. I saved her life, I can do whatever I please with her. As for you, I can't touch you unless you get in my way, so I highly suggest you stand back," Crucible growled.
"Alright, fine, you're right, I apologize," Levi said while leaning to the side to get a better look of Leo. "But if you are going to kill her, at least ditch the bat. Smash her head in with your hands. It'll assert your dominance over others."
Everything was silent as Crucible and Levi stared at each other. Levi was really getting Crucible to worry, but he wasn't sure why. It was as if the boy was watching his every move, like he knew something that he didn't. Still, with a frustrated huff, Crucible shoved the bat in Levi's hands and turned around to face Leo.
"Fine, whatever you want, kid," Crucible said while shrugging.
This was a huge mistake on Crucible's part, though. Though Levi didn't look it, he was amazingly strong, and much smarter than many took him for.
Twisting his body to the side, Levi lifted up the bat and swung it around straight for the back of Crucible's head, hitting it not as hard as he could, as Levi still feared to take his life, but hard enough to knock him to the ground in agony. The two thugs standing near by helping Crucible rushed towards Levi in anger that he had hurt their "boss", but as if Levi was a pro baseball player, he easily knocked them to the ground as if they themselves were balls.
Once they were taken care of, Levi quickly rushed to the ground to see if the girl was alright. She looked pretty out of it, but seemed to be regaining consciousness little by little. Still, Levi didn't like the fact that they were there in the open where anyone could see them next to three guys who were on the ground suffering from a baseball bat.
"Come on," Levi said in a hurry as he grabbed the girl's hand to pull her up, hoping she could stumble on her feet. "We need to get out of here.
(That's totally okay I understand haha) -

Ugh I am so sorry I was sick and feeling crappy so of course I got hit with homework overload. If you'd still like to do this I was going to propose the idea of doing over email so we can take our time with responses and not have to dig for the thread.)
Leona wanted to yell and scream at the poor excuse of a man that called himself a hero. Who was he to own people, to use them, abuse them, throw them around and get rid of a he pleased? They were humans, like him, there was nothing different between them, he wasn't special. It wasn't fair, not in a 'oh well life isn't fair' kind of way, he shouldn't get to play god him and all the other 'heros' shouldn't get to play god, they are no different than anyone else and they don't get to pick who lives, who dies or whatever in between crap, you cant model peoples lives.
She would never say any of this, it simply wasn't her place or well maybe it was but she couldn't risk herself over this. Especially in her position, folded into the ground, her body was heavy and her head felt weird. She was sure the damage to her body wasn't intense, just a few bruises, but she was sure she was mainly in shock or something of the sorts.
Leo grew more scared for herself as the men talked. She didn't want to die, she was too young to die surly. Well many younger than her died but that was way too young. Her breathing quicken and her eyes filled to the brim with tears and her mind worked way too fast. She couldn't die, she barely lived! Most of her life had been piano and violin contests and being told to shut up and sit down. Die? No way, she couldn't she, she had too much to do still, she had to finish school. She was an only child (not technically but meh)who'd take over the company, her parents wouldn't live forever. Her parents she knew her parents couldn't handle losing another child, especially to the hand of a hero, while her father would move on with grace she knew her mother wouldn't do the same. Her mother didn't leave her room for two months when Malic died, who wasn't even technically her son, and she lost over fifty pounds, Leona couldn't imagine what would happen if she died here.
When the other men fell around her at the hand of the stranger it was like the air she was trying to get to her lungs was finally let in. The tears spilled over her eyes as she was helped up, she wanted to hug the stranger but couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead she nodded slightly agreeing that they should get out of there
