(Whoops!)
James said, "The girl's real crazy. I like the cuteness." He walked towards Savanna, expecting half-heartedly her to ignore him or leave. He put his pockets inside his hands, as he felt warmer inside. He kept a warm smile on his face. -
"This is a hallway, not a wrestling match..." Savanna thought out loud as she cleaned all the garbage that was thrown around. She had to hurry, because she had volunteer hours at the nearby Cofee shop to get to. She saw James walk over and waved nervously.
-
James was shocked because of the unpredicted reaction. It was not always that when you expect the prettiest girl to ignore you is the one who first waves at you. James thought this in just a fraction of a second. He waved back, and in just a matter of milliseconds, he was near her.
-
Savanna stood up after cleaning the last of the garbage. She almost bumped into James as she did. "I have to go, sorry..." She told him, walking away.
At lunch she sat alone again. One of the popular girls walked over to her table. "Why don't you talk?" She asked Savanna. Savanna just shrugged. Everyone turned to watch. -
"Well, that was rude." James giggled, finding only himself the joke funny. He left her alone. He shrugged, out his hand on his pockets again, and walked towards somewhere else. He was wearing a jacket, and finding it normal, he put a mask on his face.
-
"Why? Why don't you talk? Why don't you make friends? Why do you ignore everyone?" The girl went on. Savanna just shrugged. "Answer me!" The girl demanded. Savanna shook her head. The girl's friends came over and they started asking questions similar to hers. Savanna never responded.
-
James saw his friends asking questions to his new friend. He went close. He could hear them with their voice in high volume, asking Savanna pretty annoying questions. He couldn't make out whether Savanna was scared or nervous or plain emotionless. He went near them. "Girls, leave her alone. She's like that. She hates talking too much. Come on, everyone's different." James said, with a witty smile and a quick guess.
-
"Yeah, but she could at least answer us!" They yelled. "She's such a coward!" They yelled. "No, not a coward! A weirdo!" Larry laughed. The whole school agreed and hollored as Savanna ran out of the cafeteria. She sat outside, crying.
-
"Yeah... She could've." He sighed and agreed, but quickly dashed out if the room saying, "That was wrong, guys." He felt something like an axe stabbing him when he heard those comments. He went near Savanna. He saw her crying. "Hi, sorry for those rude behavior." He sat near her.
-
Savanna looked at him. "There is a reason that I don't talk or make friends..." She whispered.
-
James looked at her for few seconds. He said softly, looking at her, "Uh, why?" James gave the puppy eyes look.
-
"Well... when I was little I was a chatter box... and I had a best friend named Maria. We were walking home together one day... and her ankle was twisted... so we took a shortcut. A guy with a gun cornered us and grabbed her... He told me I had to follow him... I kept chattering on about how I couldn't come with him, and we had to go. He told me if I said another word he would... kill her. I chattered on about how he wouldn't because it's against the law. And the next thing I knew... Maria was on the ground... She asked me why... Why I couldn't keep my mouth shut... And I repeat those words every morning..." She whispered, staring at her hands.
-
James moved near her. He wiped the tears from her eyes. "You mourn about it everyday?" James said, "And why don't you make friends? To not repeat the same mistake?"
