Jack Monroe walked up his apartment steps in glee. The news station allowed him to move forward with his story on the mysterious crimes that have been happen in Queens. People were commuting crimes and forgetting them? Sure sounds like a load of s---, but when people with no records whatsoever and children have been doing this, it now seems as if something else is in the works. Dark magic? No. Probably not. Either way, he could move forward, and he knew that Harley would be happy for him, or so he had hoped. He unlocked his door, walked to the table, and set down his briefcase.
" I have wonderful news" he said, grinning uncontrollably. -
(accidentally logged out)
Harley looked up from the couch at her father. "Hm? Did they let you continue that story you're working on?" She asked, pausing her show. She had spent most of the day looking for shows she watched for most of her childhood, shows from Cartoon network. Today she had gotten through most of the first season of Courage the Cowardly Dog. Her vibrant hair was splayed over the side of couch as she looked at her father. -
"Yes" Jack smiled widely. " They approved of it earlier this morning. And if all goes well, I'll get a promotion. I'll actually be a reporter on TV, not one that just randomly finds stories about cats in trees." Jack kneeled down. "Well be able to send you to the best college there is around here. "
Life wasn't easy after Jack's wife died of cancer. He tried everything there was, and it cost him way too much. "So, what do you think?" -
Harley nodded slowly. "A better college sounds good. And I do hope you get that promotion. The story better do you good." She chuckled, playing with the rolled up sleeves of her sweater. It had been a gift from her aunt, a nice one actually. It was just a bit large, so she had to roll up the sleeves a bit to be able to actually grab things. "So, what did you find out today?"
-
"Somehow, people are committing crimes, then forgetting them. Everyone, whether your record is clean or not. Even children, young children. I thought black magic at first, but unlikely. Maybe hypnosis?" Before Jack could even finish, a knock was at the door. He opened it to two police officers, a man and a woman (you?). "Can I help you officers?" Jack stuttered slightly. Jack's heart pounder as he didn't know who they were there for.
-
(i got u)
Harley sat up completely from the couch at the sound of knocking at the door. Was it a crazy ex? Unlikely. It turned out to be two officers. The two presented their badges before speaking."Yes, we're looking for Jack Monroe, a criminal on the loose. Would you know his whereabouts?" -
(get yur ass in here)
-
Jack opened his mouth, but not words could come out. He wasn't a criminal. What had happened? Finally, he stuttered. "I-I'm Jack M-Monroe."
They male cop looked at the female. "Sir, you arever under arrest for stealing, and murder. You have the right to remain silent..." Jack's mind was racing. He couldn't focus. He looked over at Harley, confused and sad -
The cops went to immediately cuffing the fathers hands behind his back, and led him to the car. Harley stumbled over the cheap rug to catch up to them outside of their apartment. "W-wait, I don't understand, officers. My dad would never do such a thing. What proof do you even have?" The female officer looked up from the car after closing it. "Finger prints, Miss Monroe. Ever seen N.C.I.S.? It's kind of like that." Harley was left with her mouth agape. "But.." She said softly as the officers climbed into the car. His story had caught up to him. There had to be someone or something behind all of this, and they had taken out the source of attention. Now his story wouldn't be heard, and crimes would continue.
-
Later that night, cops flooded into the apartment, poking around, looking for evidence. It lasted for hours. Finally, a detective walked up to Harley. "You must be hungry. What can I get you to eat? I'd let you go, but we aren't allowed to. You understand, right sweetie?" The Detective tried to sound as calming as he could. After all, this girl had just witnessed her own father's arrest. That can't be sitting toon well with her.
-
Harley fidgeted with a bracelet on her arm. "Uh, how about pizza for everyone? I'm sure you all are hungry too." She suggested. Pizza was fairly simple, and something most people liked. "And.. Did you all happen to find anything?" Harley asked cautiously. It seemed so unlikely that her father would rob a place, much less kill somebody. But if his story was true, she had to find out who was being all of this.
-
The Detective smiled and nodded. "Pizza it is, I'll pick it up. Is Pepperoni ok?"
Another Detective walk out, talking to a female cop. "Have you seen Grumlock? He was supposed to be here and hour ago!" -
(Behind* not being)
Harley nodded in response. "Pepperoni is just fine, Detective." Her attention was immediately pulled to another Detective. Her mind raced. Maybe the man they called Grumlock was busy? Or maybe- maybe he had been out committing a crime, one he wasn't aware of. -
A man, in an ally, threw a tiny crumpled piece of paper at Harley. It read "Come to ally. Go out bathroom window." It was signed with a big "H" with a happy face in it. Harley wouldn't be allowed to walk out the front door obviously. Cops would stop her. The only logical choice to the man was the window. She could lock the door, no one would know.
