Brook sighed, clearly Theo hadn't been fooled. He was smart enough to know what the humans working for her would think of him. At the driver's call, she sighed again, gently picking up the leash-like chain again and stepping out of the carriage, careful to leave enough of the chain so he wouldn't choke. The house itself was rather large, and rather old, but not in bad shape. There was plenty of open land around it, for farming and that sort of thing, and a large flower garden directly beside the house. Just seeing it made Brook smile slightly, although she quickly directed her attention back to Theo.
"My sister is seven," she replied a bit sheepishly, knowing it was odd to have a sibling so much younger. She led him towards the house, thanking the driver and quickly speaking up again, explaining to him how things would work. "I've already got a room set up, but..." She eyed him for a moment. "We made need a bigger bed. You can sleep there. The rest of the house is open, except for the other servants' rooms, my room, and my sister's room. I'll show you around, but we should really take these off first..." She trailed off, eyeing the chains. She quickly pulled him inside, pulling the small key from the salesman from her pocket. "Just, please, don't run. I swear you won't be mistreated here." She murmured quietly, before inserting the key and unlocking the heavy chains, freeing him. -
He's not that big he's like... 6'2" or something.
He followed, this time slightly more willing to follow her. Theo lifted his arms to stretch as soon as the chains were removed, involuntarily letting out a pleased groan that sounded almost sexual. He ignored it as he started to protectively feel where his wrists had been rubbed raw by the metal. Part of Theo doubted that everyone would treat him as nicely as she was, but he could give them the benefit of doubt for now. "Thanks. You were saying?" He went over everything she'd said so far, preparing himself to make a mental note of where everyone stayed. The house looked large enough to get lost in. -
ohhh sorry nvmd that part then
Brook raised an eyebrow, trying not to blush at the low groan. Theo ddinmt seem to make a big deal out of it, though, so she didn't say anything. She did notice his injured wrists though, and that was one thing she couldn't ignore. She hated seeing anyone, people and monsters alike, get hurt. "I have some medical supplies upstairs, we can clean and wrap your wrists if you want." She offered, wondering if he'd accept her help or maybe insist that he was fine.
Before she had much time to wonder, a shout echoed through the hallway. "Brooky!" A little blonde blur darted across the main hall and leapt into Brook's arms, nearly tackling her over. She laughed, carefully steadying herself and setting the little girl down, who quickly spotted Theo, watching him with big blue eyes. "You got a monster!" She squeaked, smiling. Brook nodded. "Clara, this is Theo. He'll be staying with us now, too." Clara marched closer to him, tiny hands on tiny hips as she looked up at Theo, who was nearly twice her size. "My sissy's good. Be nice to her." She ordered, with a look as stern as any seven year old could manage. However, she quickly dropped her arms and grinned again. "Can I touch your horns?" -
"I think I'll be fine, but thanks. Do they look that terrible to you?" he asked, holding out his wrists so that she could get a closer look. He tucked his fingers in at an interesting angle, trying to avoid cutting himself. Even though he'd made an effort to keep his nails dull for many years, the small scars on his hands proved that they'd punctured his skin enough times for him to learn how to control them. "You might want me to trim my claws, though."
He was cut off by a young, eager squeal from down the hallway. They watched their interaction nervously, not sure how he'd be viewed by the child. Her reaction, however, reassured in him the belief that prejudice was taught. He took a step back and knelt down, bending his head over so that she could reach the horns. "Of course, Miss Clara. But just so you know, I lose my horns every year, then they grow back. I think I'm getting close to losing them, so be gentle." -
Brook pursed her lips, but supposed he was right. The skin was red and raw, but nothing that wouldn't fade in a day or two. Besides that, she didn't want to hurt his pride too badly by fussing over him. So she nodded and relented. "Alright, I guess that's fine. I'll find a file or something later for your claws." She said, although he seemed a bit preoccupied with Clara at the moment. She watched the two of then with a soft smile, surprised by how comfortable Theo seemed around her sister.
Clara reached out and wrapped her small fingers around one of his front horns, gasping. "Wow! You're like that deer that was in our garden one day!" She informed him with a toothy smile. "I like you, are you gonna stay with us for a long time?" She hesitated. "Cuz...cuz sometimes people go away a lot. Like Mommy and Daddy." Brook bit her lip, relieved when the tiny blonde quickly perked up again. "I like your tail, too." -
glad brook approves of his response to children as he'll probably be the father of hers
"Really? He was probably my cousin," Theo joked. "Next time you see him, say hello for me." He found himself pleasantly surprised at the way both of them handled his presence. He didn't know much about servitude, but it always seemed like it'd be a little... harsher. Not like this at all.
As soon as Clara let go of his horns, he lifted his head again, looking at her with an expression that slowly became sympathetic. He knew what it was like for family to be absent, though in a different way. Her expression was almost enough to change his mind about sneaking off, too. He shrugged, then glanced up at Brook. "I think I'm here to stay. But I have a family too, and they probably miss me." -
ah yes one thing I like about straight soaps is that they can actually get pregnant
Clara's eyes widened to the dice of saucers and she gasped. "Really?" Brook laughed softly, gently ruffling the younger girl's hair before picking her up to hold her on her hip. "No, not really, kiddo. Deer and, um, monsters are different." She hoped Theo didn't mind her using that word much. It seemed so rude. Clara looked a bit baffled by the short explanation, but didn't dwell on it, her attention quickly returning to the fawn. "I'm happy you're staying. You...you can be a part of our family now." She decided with a nod, before squirming out of Brook's arm to hug Theo's leg. "I like you." She stated, before saying something about going to look for deer and darting off again.
Brook laughed softly again, running a hand through her hair. "I'm sorry, she can be a bit much. You really are good with kids though." She smiled up at him for just a moment before clearing her throat and glancing away. "Um, here, I still have to show you around," She headed up the first staircase. "All the bedrooms are up here. Mine is the one at the far left, Clara's in across from mine, and your room is next to mine." She explained, hoping to distract them both with the tour, a bit embarrassed about the slight affection she'd felt towards him seeing him act so kind to Clara. -
I think monsters are like... very morphed but similar to humans? So they can breed they just... produce more humanoid monsters. Theo's probably got some human in him already
He tensed a bit as the girl hugged his legs, relaxing as she ran off. Family? That was a bit much, especially for the first day of him being there. This really wasn't what he expected. He followed her through the house, only partially hearing what she said. The house was incredible, but he was used to the wealth that influential families carried. He peered down the hallway, making a note of his door and where the bathrooms were. He felt awkward being so close to Brook's and Clara's rooms, and had no clue what the others would think of him being so close to them.
"So... who are you then? Or your parents? If they're gone so often," he asked, hoping he didn't sound rude. The information was invasive but kind of necessary, given their situation. "If you're willing to tell me, that is." -
ahh hey hey I'm so so so sorry about last night I feel really bad for worrying you I promise I'm okay now and I won't do it again I got rid of what I used I'm so sorry thank you so much for always being there it really does mean a lot to me
also before I got all upset I saw your post yeah yes I like that idea a lot there can be a party or something ^^ we can do the timeskip now if you'd like? Unless you wanna finish his first day or something it's up to you
Brook sighed softly. "No, there's not really any reason you can't know." She hesitated, shifting a little uncomfortably. "My grandfather was a miner, when he was young he stumbled upon a large cave embadded with gold, and my parents have been living off of it. They have a lot of farmland too, although they have monsters do most of their work..." She trailed off, a bit embarrassed. Her parents were wealthy, but not because of any hard work of their own, and they downright encouraged enslaving and mistreating innocent monsters. She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "They insisted on me getting a monster of my own. That's the only reason I...bought you. I'm sorry. But I hope you won't hate it here." -
Okay I'm glad you got rid of it pls pls pls keep yourself safe and remember that you're always loved
Also I think he should finish up his first day???
He frowned at the thought of her parents. He probably knew someone working for them, someone who had vanished and left their family to speculate. Then he shrugged. "Look, I... if I may, your parents sound awful. No offense. Really, you seem nice. I trust that, legally, I'm in good hands. But, speaking of family, will I be able to write mine? Just so that they know I'm okay." He wasn't sure if he wanted to be honest with her about his own heritage, but decided not to be for the moment. If he could write home, explaining that he was safe... his absence might not strike up another war.
