After being introduced and finding a seat up front, she quickly found members of the class scooting closer to her.
Someone finally broke the ice, and asked if those were accessories or if they were real. She sighed, and looked at the teacher for help, but the teacher wanted to know the answer as well. Of course.
So she went into the whole awkward conversation explanation of what she was and why she had ears.
Well...at least now that's out of the way.. -
The class was fairly uneventful. In no time, his classmates pegged him as the outcast within the group. He didn't even need his ears and tail for it, this time. It seemed to make the nerds feel somewhat better, though, to finally not be the odd one out. Despite his newness to the group, he found the work to be incredibly easy. The block passed slowly, but as soon as he was let out, he found himself rushing to the bathroom to reposition the orange ears.
-
After finally getting to the actual class, a few minutes later the bell rung. Vermilion smiled at those who told her goodbye, and walked out into the hall. Next class..? Oh, she had to stop by her locker first anyway, she'd look at the schedule there.
She walked down the hall, ears tilting slightly as she tried to tune out the voices around her. It was difficult, and sometimes all the noise gave her a headache, or worse, a panic attack. But this school seemed quieter than the last. -
Once he fixed everything, he headed back out and found somewhere quiet to look over his schedule. Charlie stopped in an empty staircase and sat down, opening up the little folder. It had all of his classes, which he quickly looked over. He had history next, in the basement. The extracurricular information boasted sports and clubs galore. Skimming it, he found himself uninterested. Athletics would be a disaster, mainly because of the locker room. There was no way he could sign up for anything like that.
When the bell rang, he headed downstairs to history class. -
She exchanged her books after finding out her next class. History? Ugh, that was going to suck.
She unenthusiasticly found her way to the classroom, on the way spotting the boy from the office before. He was a new student..?
He was kinda cute, but nothing not in a stand out way. Not that mattered to her, but maybe she could sit next to him..?
Nope. Bad idea. Don't get your hopes up for a friend. She thought, as she walked into the class, forcing a smile. -
Charlie took the one spot left in the class, not bothering to see who he was sitting next to. By the time he looked up, though, it was too late to move. His desk neighbor was the girl from the office, her large bunny ears extremely visible. He had no idea how she could do that and be comfortable with it. Last time he'd freely exposed his ears, the discomfort had been enough to make him leave early. When he realized he was staring, he quickly looked away and grabbed a notebook from his bag.
-
Vermilion blushed when she caught him staring, and looked down at her open notebook, picking up her pencil and forcing herself to write song lyrics to calm her nerves.
This would be a long class, she thought, but maybe not the worst of the day.
Her left ear swiveled faintly, turning toward the teacher, earning a couple stares from other students, but she effectively ignored it. Looks like all that practise paid off. -
He was tempted to ask her if she knew any others, but he didn't. Instead, he took notes quietly, doodling every now and then when the teacher went off on a tangent. He couldn't help the fact that he did peek over every now and then at her. He'd never met a rabbit before, and those ears looked like they'd be a pain to hide. Hopefully, she couldn't tell that he was more like her than the rest of the gawking students. At least they'd be freaking out over her, not him.
-
In the end she didn't even pay attention to class, she started working on her short story for creative writing. Luckily, she was an expert of making it look like she was taking notes, thus evading the teacher's gaze and successfully distracting herself from the rest of the class.
Except..she couldn't help but glance over at him. The way he stared, wasn't in pure awe. It was more..curiosity. Like he'd seen it before but he was surprised to see it again. She'd only ever encountered that once, when she'd met the fox three schools ago.
Could he be...no..that's silly.
She shook her head, sighing. -

Eventually, a student raised his hand and was called on the teacher. "Mr. Green, can I ask what we've all been wanting to ask but haven't yet? Why does the new girl have rabbit ears?"
A murmur broke out through the classroom as the other students agreed, voicing their theories and confusion. Charlie sighed, and watched as all eyes turned to the girl sitting next to him. The question didn't seem to be rude, just curious. He wondered why she was getting positive responses to her abnormality. Maybe, if it had been this way for him, he wouldn't be hiding himself. -
"Eheh.." Vermilion blushed darkly, looking up. She wasn't sure if she should answer that, and after answering it last period she didn't really want to.
But she racked her mind for her speech just in case, looking pleadingly at the teacher. -
"I'd like to know the answer as well," Mr. Green said, turning to look at her. Charlie rolled his eyes and looked back towards the front of the room, catching up on the few notes he'd missed. He definitely didn't want to hear her explanation.
-
"Well, it's just the same reason you have your ears, to be honest. Genetics-" She started, then went into her whole explanation. Her tail quieted as she spoke, the only thing betraying her brave facade.
-
He didn't listen. He'd never have to explain it again, hopefully, so listening to another's answer would be pointless. Charlie reached into his backpack and pulled out a pad of sticky notes and started doodling on them instead. He was the only one who seemed uninterested in the rabbit's story.
