By the time Ann had finished showering, Landon had the table set with the glasses filled with orange juice and egg sandwiches on a platter in the middle of the table. Landon was laying on the couch when Ann walked out. "Good morning. My father should be here in a half hour. Not like you're excited to see him."
-
She couldn't help smiling a little. "Yeah... You're already done?" She gestured to the table. "I won't know where things are if you do my work for me.."
-
Landon nodded and rolled his eyes. "It's not your work. Dont worry about it.." Landon picked up the remote and tried the telly again. No cable. Shaking his head, he got up. "I guess he disabled cable. We have a bunch of movies." He pointed to the movie rack and the DVD player. "I'm going to change real quick." He walked into his room, shutting the door behind him.
-
She sighed at his disappearance again, and studied the movie selection for a while. As much as she tried to focus on the boxes in front of her, she couldn't help but let her mind wander. What was she going to do here? What about school? Would people look for her? Was she going to die? Trying to erase such thoughts from her head, she walked back to the bookshelf in her room. Selecting a random book, she went back to the living room and sat on the couch.
-
I'm going to sleep. Night~
Landon changed into a pair of white skinny jeans, deciding to start shirtless. He walked out of his room and closed the door behind him. He leaned against the back of the couch, hovering over the girl. "A reader, huh?" -
Goodnight~
Ann glanced up for a second and stopped herself from blushing. Shirtless guys was not an everyday occurrence in her life. She nodded once and glanced back down. "Yeah.. I had reading glasses in my backpack, actually. Heavens knows what's happened to them now.." She frowned and shrugged. -
"Where is your backpack?" Landon asked, curious. He jumped over the back of the couch and sat down next to her. "I'm sure Charles would get it for you. Maybe.." His voice trailed off as the cellar door opened. Landon stood quickly and turned toward the stairs with a fake small. "Good morning, father." Landom hurried over to the table and made sure everything was perfect.
-
Ann was about to answer when Charles came downstairs. She calmly set her book on the coffee table and stood up, smiling. "Good morning." She followed Landon to the table and stood there awkwardly, sort of regretting where she put the book. Some people didn't like books on their coffee tables.
-
Charles sat down without giving the two another glance. "I have a meeting today, I might be late for dinner." Landon's father was a businessman. Landon now thought it was odd for such an insane man to have such a normal job, but he guessed no one suspected that a businessman would kidnap people. Landon nodded and sat down.
-
Ann sat down and stared at her plate, already forming a plan in her head. She was about to ask Charles if she could have her backpack, at least her glasses and books, until she remembered what Landon said. Dont talk unless you're addressed to. She stopped herself from talking and glanced at Landon, almost for approval.
-
Landon knew that Ann wanted to ask him for her backpack, so he cleared his throat. Charles looked up from his floor, glaring. "Yes, Landon?" Landon shifted in his seat nervously. "Well, Ann-" He didn't get to finish before his father interrupted. "Her name is Rose." Landon gave him a confused look. "No, it's Ann.." Charles eyes shone with fury. Landon bit his lip. "Erm, Ann- I mean Rose..Needs her backpack." Charles smiled and looked over at Ann. "Is that right, Rose?" Landon was so confused by the name.
-
Ann shifted in her seat nervously. She wasn't overly fond of her "new name," but decided against fighting the maniac. Remembering just in time to look at Charles before speaking, she said "Well, I would appreciate it... It has my books and reading glasses in it..and paper and writing materials..." She frowned. "Also a cell phone, but that's just for emergencies. of course, you can have that..." She bit her lip and looked at Charles expectantly.
-
Charles nodded, hanging on to every word. "I will give you your bag at dinner. You may have everything except the cell phone and any other electronics." Charles ate quickly, then stood up. "I'm off to work." Without another word, he straightened his tie and left the cellar.
-
Ann was able to utter a quick "thank you" before he left, then smiled a little at the thought of her backpack. She turned to Lamdon. "Thanks.."
-
Landon didn't say anything, just nodded and quickly picked up the plates and glasses. After cleaning everything up, he grabbed his black duffle bag and his gray bookbag.
