Landon looked up and down the street, searching for Uncle Charlie's bar. Landon had been searching for the damned place for almost an hour, finding no luck at all. He pulled on the black suitcase he was dragging around and crossed the street running, careful not to get hit by any of cars that were zooming by. Landon was about to give up when he saw a large sign that read, "Blackpool Bar." Finally, Landon thought, and rushed over to the small bar, pushing open the door. Inside, the floor was made of dark wood and the walls were a light brown. There were flat screens hanging up on the walls and men drinking at the bar, watching some sort of sports game. Landon dragged his suitcase behind him and walked over to the bar, searching for Charlie. Finally, Landon found the familiar face that belonged to his Uncle. His hair was light brown and messy at the top and he had a scruffy beard on his chin. "Landon!" His Uncle spotted him and threw his arms around his nephew. "You're so grown!" Landon tensed when his uncle hugged him, and pulled away quickly. "Hello."

Lucas was doingwhat he did just about every day: Observing. If he wasn't back at his home writing chapter after chapter of a book, he was out and about observing his surroundings to fit whatever he was looking to write about. That was the only reason he really left the house other than to go grocery shopping. But this specific topic required more than just close observation. It required experience. He'd learned over the past few months that not all marriages were as they appeared. Some were perfect, others were complete trainwrecks. The condraticting outcomes messed with his mind and data, but many of his partners have failed to be of assistance to him. He needed someone more natural, someone who went with the flow. Letting out an exasperated sigh, the young man stood from his seat in a little pastry shop and took his leave, a muffin in hand that he'd always purchase on his way out. He walked with purpose towards the small bar down the street, hoping for any new information from his older friend.
-
Charlie put his hands on his hips and grinned at Landon. "You have grown so much. Why I remember-" Landon cut him off by coughing loudly. He didn't want to be told his own life story. Landon didn't like thinking about his past, or at least not since the death of his beloved parents. Charlie nodded like he understood. "Would you like anything? A beer..?" Landon shook his head and bit his lip. "Uncle, I'm not old enough for that." Charlie raised his eyebrows. "Fine. Anything else you want?" Landon shook his head and took a seat in one of the chairs in the corner, pulling a thick book out of his suitcase. Charlie hovered over him. "There's someone I would like you to meet. They should ve here soon.." Charlie glanced at his watch nervously. He didn't know what Landon would think of a fake marriage, or if his friend would even like Landon. Landon raised his eyebrows but didn't question it, opening his book.
-
The writer let out another breath of air as he carefully pushed the door in to the bar. "Charles?" He called, having not bothered to look around yet. He knew the man would be behind the counter, he almost always was. But what he hadn't expected was the new face sitting in front of it. A younger boy, younger than himself, he was sure. Licas figured this was the nephew that moved to London to stay with his uncle. "You're new, aren't you? And a bit young to be in a bar." Lucas was observing again, looking for anything particularly interesting about Landon. He then shifted his gaze to Charlie, saying what he usually would to get a drink. "Today has been most stressful."
-
Charlie nodded and quickly rushed to get Lucas a drink. Landon looked up from the book that was rested against his eyes. Landon watched as the man observed him as if he were searching for flaws. Landon said nothing to the man and returned to his book, not giving Lucas a second glance. Charlie walked back towards the two, a beer and a glass of water in his hand. He set them both on the counter and pushed the water towards Landon. "I know you said you didn't want anything, but I got you some water in case you were parched," He beamed at Landon then turned the Lucas. "I know he looks real young but he's eighteen. Dosen't look a day over fifteen if I say so myself.." Charlie glanced at Landon who was looked back with raised eyebrows.
-
"People and genetics are strange in that way, but despite how young he looks, he shows that he has quite the intellect and maturity of a boy his age if not older." Lucas explained as he took a sip from the glass. "All because of the book he's currently reading. And in this day and age, I'm surprised to see teenagers read books. They always seem to act as if reading a simple one hundred pages is so hard." He was straight-faced, emotionless, as he turned to peek at the book. "I'm quite the literature enthusiast myself. I enjoy writing more though." Lucas then turned away again, staring at his glass while he drank from it. It was a bit more than his usual, but he'd fine so long as he drank in moderation.
-
Landon shut his book and shoved it back into his suitcase. Taking a small sip of his glass, he listened to what the man had to say. Charlie was nodding as he talked, agreeing. "So I was thinking.." Charlie turned to glance at Landon. "That he would be perfect for your..erm.." Charlie cleared his throat and turned to look at Lucas, hoping he got the point. Landon was very confused and he hated being confused. He drummed his fingers on the counter, waiting for an explanation. When he didn't get one, he spoke up in a soft voice. "What are you talking about?" His voice was not as deep as most guys, and because of this he didn't speak very much. Landon was oddly curious about what they were talking about and didn't want to be confused any longer. Charlie raised his eyebrows and turned to look at Lucas.
-
"Ah yes. My experiment. I'd like to learn a bit more first, so if you don't mind.." Lucas turned to look at Landon once more, pulling a small notebook and a pen from his coat pocket. "I'd like to ask you some questions. There's specific information I'd like to know, so pay close attention to what I ask." Lucas fixed his glasses when he felt them slide down his nose and inhaled deeply. "What's your name? I already know your age, so when were you born? How are your social skills? What are your hobbies? Have you ever had a job or done chores? Are you nocturnal or diurnal? Do you have any allergies or disabilities? What's your orientation? What do you look for in a significant other?"
-
Landon looked over at Charlie with wide eyes. Experiment? Landon shifted uncomfortably in his seat and stared at his glass of water, thinking of answers to those odd questions. Finally, Landon spoke in his soft and gentle voice. "My name is Landon. I was born in September. My social skills are normal, I guess." Pulling at his fingers uncomfortably, Landon continued. "Hobbies include reading and drawing. No, I haven't even done neither of those..Diurnal. I'm allergic to many flowers and peanut butter." Landon raised his eyebrows at the new question. "If you mean my sexual orientation..bisexual. And I don't know about the last one. I haven't really thought of that.." Landon didn't know why he was answering this man's questions, or who he even was. The whole situation made Landon even more confused. He hated being confused. Chewing on his bottom lip, Landon stared at his uncle.
-
Lucas was writing down the responses, the pen speeding over paper from his aspiring career. He was interested to know more about the younger and hoped to do so by actually working with him and living around him. A small smile came over his lips as he closed the book and took off his glasses to wipe them. "I think he'll be a fine partner for my experiment, and I'm sure I'll learn even more while working with him. Thank you, Charles, for allowing me to meet your nephew. You will both be paid for, even if my experiment fails again."
-
Charlie beamed and smiled at Landon. "That's great, Lucas! Isn't that great, Landon?" Landon tilted his head and gave his uncle a confused look. "What the hell are you talking about?" He said softly. His uncle glanced at Lucas and then turned his attention to Landon. "Well, Lucas here is a famous scriptwriter. He's writing a script about newlyweds and needs some..er..hands on experience, you could say." Charlie poured himself a beer and took a long sip before continuing. "You just happen to be chosen to..help him. We will both be paid for your time~" Landon sat there in complete shock. Shaking his head, Landon got up and grabbed his black suitcase by the handle. "I think I need to go back to America.." He started towards the door, dragging his suitcase behind him.
-
Lucas was actually smiling himself, glad to have found what he thought was a perfect partner. Until that younger partner tried to leave, causing him to frown. He reached out to gently take a hold of his wrist. "Landon, please. I can't express how difficult this process has been. I need your help to do this. We won't actually be doing anything, it's just a few weeks of being around each other and acting like a married couple. Do you know how hard it is to write about a marriage when you don't know what's going on behind closed doors? I want to see what that's like, being an average married couple. I promise you whatever you want plus payment." Lucas had to stop to breathe, always having been quite the chatter box when it came to persuasion. "Please, Landon, be my partner for awhile.."
-
Landon flinched when Lucas took hold of his wrist and froze. Charlie was now standing in front of him, hands on his hips. "C'mon, Landon. Please? And besides. You have no where else to stay in America. You have no money, no parents to go off crying too.." Landon tensed when his uncle said the last part and tried to shove his parent's memory out of his mind. Landon took a deep breath and sighed. "Fine. But you have to promise that I can leave whenever I want." Charlie, beer in hand, took another long sip. Landon rolled his eyes. How did his uncle run a successful bar if he was always half drunk himself?
-
"I promise. You don't have to stick around if I don't need data, and I have no intention of making you into a 'house wife'. We're preparing to be a modern couple for a reason." Lucas composed himself, setting his lenses back on the bridge of his nose and standing up to lightly and rather awkwardly hold Landon'd hand. "Thank you very much for your cooperation. It assist me in my career."
-
Landon relaxed and let Lucas hold his hand. Landon tightened his grip on his suitcase handle, his knuckles turning white. Charlie was giving them both a Cheshire grin, taking another long sip from his beer bottle. "Great! I'm glad everything worked out! Have fun you two!" Charlie practically skipped past them, heading back to tend to the bar. "But!" Landon called out for Charlie softly, but there was no point. He sighed and turned to look at Lucas.
