(He hasn't noticed yet eeeehhhhehheh)
"Since you don't have an ID, why don't you give me a name? Mine's August." He was trying his best to show the boy that he wasn't here to get him in trouble, but rather to help him- He still thought he was underage, despite the kid assuring him otherwise. -
Alex swallowed. He couldn't see the manager anywhere, and the only dancers he saw were the ones who were working. "Uhm, Alexander," he stated, tucking his hands into his pockets.
Finally, looking across the space, he caught eyes with a bartender who was off duty- Kaleb, chatting up a boy. When they caught eyes, Alex made a gesture across his neck with his hand, then pointed to the cop. In an instant, understanding flashed on Kaleb's face, and he was speed-walking over, cooing, "Baby! Baby, what're you getting in trouble with a cop for?" -
"Alexander." The man rolled the name around in his mouth, letting it settle there. It fit the boy, he decided.
When they entered the building, he frowned at the sudden look of pale fear on the boy's face, and thought for a second that he was going to bolt. Then, however, he called a bar tender over, who seemed to know him. August studied the man, and let out a small noise of disapproval- How people got wrapped up in this kind of thing, he wasn't sure. "I'm just making sure he's not underage, that's all, sir. He looks a bit young, doesn't he?" -
Kaleb let loose a grin, scooping Alexander into his arms and lifting him up. Alex had always thought him the type for a bar, being as Kaleb was muscualr and his job never required him to wear a shirt. "Of course he is, he's just a Baby!" Kaleb laughed, then set Alex down back where he'd been. He went into a more serious tone, setting a hand on the younger boy's shoulder. "I assure you, he's legal. A little young, but legal. He's twenty two! What a big boy. The manager's out on business, but I bet I could pull up Baby's information for you if you want."
-
Clearly, Baby was a stage name. Maybe August had been wrong after all? He bit his lip, and let out a small sigh. "Yeah, I just need to see some papers, and then I'll let him go if everything checks out. Thanks for your help." He disliked this place, the way it smelled, and how the air felt on his skin.
-
Alex was starting to feel a little better, now that he had some kind of backup on his story. He was, though, a little embarrassed that Kaleb kept calling him Baby in front of the cop.
Kaleb smiled again, nodded, and started leading the way towards the back of the building. Alex sandwiched himself next to Kaleb, trying to avoid the judgemental stare of the police officer while he spoke to the bartender. "I think I just lost a bed," he stated with a grumble. Kaleb, he knew, would understand that Alex didn't necessarily just mean sex, but also a bed to sleep in. Otherwise, he had to spend the night at the motel down the street. -
August already felt like s---- He knew people had to do what they had to do for money, and strip dancing wasn't illegal, and while he didn't care for it, he couldn't arrest the kid for it. It would mean a lot of paperwork if he was wrong, and it was looking like he was.
Not that he couldn't just pretend this had never happened- He could. But, if Alexander took this up with his boss.. It would mean twice the amount of paperwork. -
Kaleb patted Alex's shoulder. "It'll be fine. You've got a Benjamin, right? That should get you a night somewhere much nicer." If he would've been able to, Alex knew the bartender would have offered to let him stay the night, but he knew from past experience that Kaleb's boyfriend didn't like the idea.
They reached the office, and Kaleb let the three of them in, shutting the door behind himself. "Alright, Baby Baby Baby," he repeated over and over, while he combed through some files in a cabinet. Finally, he found it. The folder labeled at the top with "Baby", with a girly font and little pink heart stickers around it. Alex blushed as the folder was handed to the officer. -
It only took him a few seconds to figure out that the papers were real, and this whole thing was completely legal. "..Alright. It seems that I was wrong. I really thought you were.. You know, a prostitute." August sighed, handing the folder back to the shirtless man. "Look, I really don't feel like doing paperwork.. Is there anyways I can make this up to you? Maybe treat you to dinner? I'm off in about five minutes, so if we just go to my house and switch cars.."
-
Alex took a long sigh of relief, running a hand through his dull green hair. Kaleb smiled triumphantly, since he had sort of saved the day. "Glad to be of help. I'm kind of late on my break, though, so I've got to head back to work and you guys need to be out of the office, so..." Kaleb opened the door, walking out without further instruction.
At the offer of dinner- oh, Alex couldn't help it. He did a once over. The man's hair wasn't unruly, his collar was straight, and, the for sure sign, there was no wedding band on his finger. Single as a guy could get, and if Alex really wanted a place to stay the night, he knew he might be able to pull this off. "Sure, dinner sounds nice," he agreed, flashing a grin. -
August lead the way out of the room, waiting for Alex to follow him. "We could go to a restaurant, but all of the places in town kind of suck. Would you rather just have me cook you a meal? We can watch a movie, with it. I have hundreds at home. Classics, RomComs, you name it." He didn't know what he was doing, inviting this person into his home. But, he felt bad, and.. He was already doing it.
-
Alex almost felt like the officer was trying to chat him up, but he wasn't quite sure if it was on purpose or if he was just being friendly. He ended up brushing it off, shrugging nonchalantly and waving goodbye over his shoulder to someone who'd shouted his name. "I think a night in sounds fine. And a movie'd be nice too, whatever you're into."
-
August nodded, and kept walking, before he remembered one more thing. "You're not allergic to cats or dogs, are you?" Personally, he only owned two cats, but, his sons tended to bring their lab with them sometimes, and he was sure some of the hair was still in the house, because that thing tended to shed like hell.
-
Alex shook his head, "Nope. I used to have a few dogs, actually. Why, do you have any?" He looked at August, genuinely curious about this. He had a particualr liking for any sort of pet, except for lizards- he couldn't stand those.
-
"I've never owned a dog, but my boys have one. It stays at their house most of the time, but now and then, they bring it over. I have two cats, though," He confided.
