His boys, Alexander thought, wrinkling his eyebrows. So that could mean a few different things. Maybe the man was divorced, and it was the kids from the marriage. Surely, he wasn't very young and still married, because he implied that the boys weren't at his house all the time. So maybe Alex had made the same mistake that the officer had made about assuming his age, and this man was old enough that his kids were moved out and only occasionally visited him.
"Cats, hm? I prefer dogs, but cats are alright. You've got kids, then?" -
"Two cats. And yeah," He said, with a little laugh, shaking his head, "Two ten-year-olds. Twins. Don't get me wrong, their good kids, but.. Two of them. Identical, too," He wasn't really complaining, he reasoned, as he opened the back of the cop car for the man. "Oh, and sorry, but I can't have you up front.. I apologize."
-
So the man must be divorced, then, Alex decided. He glanced at the back door of the lid's car, holding back the urge to wrinkle his nose. "Erm... That's okay. Don't worry about it." Alex forced a little smile, and slipped into the seat. It wasn't so bad he supposed, but he still felt like he might get weird looks from people in other cars. Or worse, there were customers passing the car, and he worried that one of them might glance in and think he really was a prostitute.
-
"Alrighty, it'll be a short drive, I don't live far from town." It was the truth- Within ten minutes, they were pulling into a small driveway, in which a red truck was parked. August got out, opening the back door for the younger boy to get out as well.
-
Alexander was just fine in the ride, because it turned out the back seat wasn't so uncomfortable. Though, he did sort of avoid letting passing cars see his face. When they pulled up and parked, Alex went to open up the door for himself, only to find that there was no handle on the door. "Oh." He had to wait for August to open it for him, and when he did, the younger boy stepped out.
-
August locked the car, and then headed to the door, unlocking it. He was welcomed by a big fluffy salt-and-pepper cat laying on top of his entry rug. "Mu, move," He grumbled, edging the cat with the toe of his boot until he left.
-
-
Alexander watched the cat scurry off, but other than observing the scene, the boy felt a bit awkward standing in the doorway with nothing to do.
-
The man stepped back, moving to invite Alexander in. "Go on. It wont bite. At least, I hope not. It's just a house."
-
Alex smiled, a little shyly and feeling ridiculous for being so shaken by the situation. He'd been in many a man's house, but for some reason, being in the house of one that was a cop and didn't intend to have sex with him was entirely different. He stepped in, slipping his shoes off.
-
August brushed past him, closing the door behind himself. "Mhm, can I get you some coffee or tea while I cook something? It's a bit chilly tonight.. Anyways. Talk to me. Tell me a bit about yourself, kid. Other than what I already know, anyways."
-
"Coffee would be great, thanks," Alex answered, taking careful steps to move out of his way. "Ah, right, well. You know my name, both of them, I guess, but you can call me Alex. That makes three. What do you want to know?"
-
The man hummed at the response, rummaging through pots, until he found a coffee maker, taking it out, plugging it in. August turned to smile at him. "Your family. Your friends. Plans for the future. s--- like that. Excuse my French."
-
"Never heard that kind of French," he found himself grinning, and shuffling his feet as he replied. "No plans, really. Or siblings, but I've got a dad. Most of my friends are from, you know, work."
-
"..Work. How did that come about, hm?" He set to getting out pans to bake chicken, and a pot to boil noodles in.
