Never heard of Comcast but wow okay
At first, I hadn't remembered hearing him stutter, but now it was clear. While most might find it annoying, I thought he was rather cute when he did that. I laughed, then covered my mouth, hoping he hadn't known why I laughed. Behind my hand, I said, "Oh, really? I don't always drink tea with sugar, so I wouldn't know.. Next time, I'll be sure to tell them to dump some more in. Or I'll make it myself. Does that sound good?" -
what they don't have Comcast in Cali? What do they have? Cox, DirecTV, Verizon...?
"Oh, yes. That'd be wonderful," I muttered, studying her and the smile played out on her face. Setting a crumpled paper to the left side of the tabletop, I gestured with my pen. "N-now, the purpose of us talking later, we-well, now actually, was time, ah, ah yes? You wanted to know about my theories of time?" -
They might but I don't pay attention to things. AT&T, Verizon, I think we have DirecTV, and Time Warner cable and stuff??
"I'm glad!" I slowly removed the hand that was covering my mouth and looked down to gaze at the paper. "Yes, I believe it was, and yes, I would. I'll have to warn you, though, I might be a bit slow at understanding what you're saying.. Don't stop talking, though, okay?" -
oh we have twc some places like Rhode Island
"S-sure. Basic concept is that time is linear to us. If you walk for an hour, it's an hour. If you drive for an hour, it's an hour. Speed has no effect on our time. But in reality, time is... Relativistic. If you travel for a year at 99% the speed of light, your time slows down." I paused to sip my tea. "People will age and years will pass. When you return, you will have aged very little. Time is linear to us. You'll still call it a year, but its been more. That's because time isn't the same on a mathematical scale as it is on a conventional scale for us. Questions?" -
well at least it's not foreign over there :o
My head was tilted slightly as I listened to him. At first, I was quite confused, but after a minute I realized what Benjamin was saying. Well, 50% of it. I also quietly noted that he hadn't stammered while stating the facts about time. "I have one. You said that speed has no effect on our time, correct? So.. How does all of that about the speed of light work? How exactly does it slow down your time..? Does that have something to do with that mathematical and conventional scale?" I paused, drinking a bit of my tea. A small blush formed on my face. "Sorry, that was more like three questions." -
More old people have it, usually tho
"That's f-fine. Well, you take time present: us, and time future," I sketched two dots connected by a line on the sheet of paper. "Once you add time past, things become complex. Because of the nature and speed of space time, time slows because everything has a shorter distance to travel. The equations are quite..." I began to write but stopped. "Time is always changing. We use it as a constant to measure, when in reality it's about as reliable as Schrodingers Cat!" -
good thing I have AT&T
I scooted my chair over so I could see from his point of view what he was drawing. It looked simple, easy to remember. I took a moment to let the new information to sink in. "I don't know how reliable Schrodinger's Cat is, but that sounds.. Interesting, actually. Please, continue." I wasn't one for math or science, but Ben made all of this interesting. -
Oooh AT&T is so good
"Something just as interesting; if you curve space time, which happens with dense matter when time is going the other way," I continued with my diagram, creating two bending lines towards time past. "Things get... Wild. I didn't get a phd in physics, but when you involve physics with time by bending these waves towards eachother, you get a singularity." I penciled in an x. "An explosion at the beginning of time. The Big Bang. It's... It's brilliant. I was born about fifty years too late to come up with this, though. A shame really. If you saw the equations for this, it'd... It's wonderful." -
not really
I gazed thoughtfully at the diagram that he drew, nibbling my lip in concentration. Once again, it took me a while to let everything sink in (and I still couldn't understand it all), but I understood enough to vaugely see his point. It sounded silly, yet interesting and serious. I couldn't decide what it was to me, though. "It sounds amazing. Are the equations long?" -
Better than the s--- we have here
"Oh yes, very. See, involving time tends to..." I trailed off, eyes shooting up from the paper to Phoebe. In seconds, I was smiling ear to ear, struggling to formulate words. Looking insane, the product of any mathematicians work, I jumped from the seat. It was almost as if she had singlehandedly proved a very important theorem. "Time! Time is what it needs! Nobody accounted for time! I need to get to the Universtiy, t-t-to talk with some of the, ah, pr-pr-professors. If you need to talk to me ever and I don't answer the phone, I live just round the bend. I-I need to go now, I think." -
well that might be true
By the look on Benjamin's face, I could tell he had figured something out. It looked like he was a miner way back when who had just found the biggest collection of gold digging near his home. I was slightly confused, but he sounded excited about wherever it was. I smiled at him. "Alright, alright. I'll take that in mind. Come back for tea tomorrow, okay?" -
I changed my mind about kiking out on this. Ben is too good of a character, and pheebs is too adorable.
"Tea? Oh, oh, yes, tea, of course! What is tomorrow? Wednesday? Friday? I don't quite know," I brushed my hair up and away and reached my hand out awkwardly. "It was q-quite-quite nice to, you know, this, ah... yes. Quite nice. Tomorrow, definitely. As long as-as it isn't S-Sunday." -
ben and pheebs 4eva
"You know what? I'm not really sure.. I think it's Friday today, isn't it? So tomorrow would be Saturday." I nibbled on my nail as I watched his whole face light up. "I agree, it was nice. I'll await tomorrow, then, Ben." I slowly took his hand, shaking it with a smile on my face. "I hope you'll be recognized for whatever it is you've found. Until tomorrow!" -
I ship it
s--- I didn't really think through what would happen after this point.
"Yes, tomorrow!" Pulling away quicker than my feet could keep up with, I stumbled clumsily through the small crowd of people to the door, sending her off with only a glance and a wave. Thanks, was said silently, and I was gone. -
we could do a time skip Ozze
"Goodbye!" I waved energetically to the man as he got up and almost fell out of the shop. A bright smile was on my face. I had found a new friend so quickly, one who seemed to be quite smart. I wondered how interesting this would turn out to be. Looks like.. "Only time will tell," I joked to myself, turning to go start up my job again.
