Lucas snickered, adoring the cute, determined look on his face. "Alright...what does the winner get then? I don't want your legs, you should keep them." He said, readying himself to spring into action.
-
"Mm," Marco thought, trying to think of what he could possibly have from Lucas that he couldn't ask for anyway. "Loser has to wear the winner's clothes. Your's are too big on me, and mine are too small on you.. So hopefully you lose."
-
Lucas giggled, already imagining Marco drowning in a shirt too big for him, slipping off one shoulder, the sleeves too long... He nodded firmly. "Okay, deal. Ready...set...go!" he sprang up, into the tree, determined now to see Marco lose.
-
Marco, of course, wasn't lying about being able to climb a tree. He was really good at it, and in a matter of seconds, he was halfway up. But then, he started to slip a bit, and then he really slipped, until he was upside down, clinging to a branch with his arms and legs wrapped tight around. "L-Lucas? I'm.. I'm stuck."
-
Lucas, as confident as he was, was no match for Marco. He was quick enough, but clumsy and a little unbalanced. When Marco called his name, he looked up, eyes wide. "Hold on," he called back, suddenly worried that Marco would slip again and hurt himself. It took a bit of maneuvering, but soon he was positioned sturdily underneath the fox hybrid, arms out. "Okay, let go, and I'll catch you."
-
Marco was pretty scared to move, so it took him a second to turn his head and look down at Lucas. "No, I'll get hurt," he said, hugging the branch tighter. He tried to move just a little bit, so he wouldn't be upside down anymore, but he almost fell again so he just froze. "I'm stuck!"
-
Lucas' ears twitched, despising the fear in Marco's voice. "Marco, it's going to be okay. Everything's fine." he said calmly. "Don't move, I'll come to you." he started climbing quickly, worried that Marco might fall before he got to him. "I'm almost there, okay? You're okay, it's gonna be fine..."
-
Marco had his tail wrapped up over his legs, and his ears cowering in his hair. He'd climbed much higher than this before, but the last time he fell from a tree he broke his wrist. So he just clung tight, waiting for Lucas' help.
-
Lucas soon reached the brach just below Marco. He made sure he was sturdy, his feet supported and his body kept steady by a brach behind him, near his waist. He reached up and grabbed Marco's waist, pulling gently. "I need you to let go now, okay? Let go of the branch and grab onto me, okay?"
-
Marco was shivering, and at first, he shook his head at Lucas, afraid to let go of the branch. But, his arms were getting tired, and he knew he'd fall soon if he didn't let Lucas help him. So, he loosened his grip, and turned towards Lucas, hurriedly clinging to him.
-
Lucas mumbled a curse, feeling Marco trembling against him. "It's okay, I've got you." he hugged him for a moment, before carefully lifting the fox's legs up around his waist. "I need you to hold on tight, okay?" he said softly, kissing his head before taking a cautious step down.
-
Marco was sniffling, and he didn't hesitate at all to hold on to Lucas as tightly as he could without hurting him. He didn't move, not wanting to throw off the other hybrid's balance at all.
-
Lucas took another step down, but the branch wasn't strong enough to hold them both. It snapped, and Lucas yelped, slipping down about a foot before landing hard on a thick branch underneath. "Marco, I'm sorry," he breathed. "Are you okay?" he looked up, fearing that at least one of the jagged branches had scratched him.
-
Marco had squealed a little bit, his hands grasping Lucas' shirt securely. He smiffled again once they were still, and nodded, as he hadn't been hurt at all. "Are you okay?" He asked, leaning back a little to look at him.
-
Lucas leaned against the trunk, sighing. "Yeah, I'm fine," he took a deep breath and continued down, being extra careful not to slip again. After what seemed like forever, his feet reached solid ground, and he let out a joyful little yelp. "Yes! We're down!"
