(You understand what I mean though like Mr. Mosley from Suite Life of Zack and Cody the hotel manager
I hope I don't sound really crazy right now but that seems like an interesting coincidence)
Timothy shifted a bit, nervous now. He couldn't tell if the manager still wanted him to answer the question. "It's fine, uhm," he shrugged. It was difficult for him to even comprehend his own situation, let alone explain it to his boss. "I'm going to be taking care of a baby soon, and I don't think you'd be fond of me having it at work or anything." -
(CRAP I TAKE IT BACK I DO SEEM CRAZY
THE HOTEL MANAGER FROM SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY IS MR. MOSBEY) -
(I thought it was Mosley for a moment there too oops
we're dumb)
Mercury was silent for a moment, biting his lip. He felt stupid for digging into this any farther, but he couldn't help it, it was like he needed to know. And oh, gosh, he loved, loved kids..
"How are you going to take care of a baby without a job, Tim? Is the mother working? I'm sure you can arrange some other means.. A baby sitter, maybe?" He didn't want the man to leave at all, if the child was going to be raised on tax-payers money. It wasn't right. -
(It was so close though
At least we're dumb together)
Tim couldn't help but feel a little insulted. It really sounded like the manager thought that he hadn't planned this out, and that he didn't know what he was doing. "I can't afford it. The mother, she's... She's not going to stay.. If I keep the job and just get a nanny, then I won't be able to afford anything else. The best I can do is take care of her myself and take food stamps." His hand still held the doorway, knuckles white in the hold. "I'm just a minimum wage worker, I can't afford it all at once." -
(So cloooose
Well. xD We tried.)
"..I.." He didn't know what to say now, not without making the man any angrier. So, he took a deep breath, and opened his mouth to apologize. Instead, though, he offered something he probably shouldn't have. And he wouldn't have, had it not been for the baby. Still, it was stupid. "I can help you. I have a little too much money, you know, and my house is pretty big- I mean, I have three spare bedrooms- And I wouldn't mind. And you could still watch the kid, and you could take care of the house while I'm on business trips and stuff, and-" He cut himself off, coughing. "I, uh.. I'm sorry about your situation." -
(It's the thought that counts)
He wasn't sure how he was supposed to respond to that kind of offer. It seemed like too much, far too much for a manager to offer to one of his workers. Timothy just wanted to get out of the conversation, and settle for the plan he'd already had ready. "I'm sorry, I can't do that. Mr. Mosley I should really get to work now, have a good day." The man didn't hesitate to leave at that point, turning right around and tracing his steps to take twenty right across the room to get to the elevator. -
Mercury watched the man leave, shaking his head. He would offer again later, after he'd had a bit to think clearly. He sighed, and turned on his heel, heading back into his office to finish his paperwork.
It was two hours into the work day when he finally completed the most boring part of his day. Merc rolled his shoulders, finishing up the doughnut that Felicia had brought him half an hour earlier. Alec had been by, two, with a few messages from his brother.
Merc liked Alec. The boy was young, though, only eighteen. He was a flirt, and very openly gay. Merc himself was bisexual, though he felt that Alec was a one-night stand type of man. And Merc just wasn't good at one-night stands. -
Timothy wasn't the type of person who got irritated about being bored. Just like anyone else, he did get bored, but he never really cared about it. His job was simple, repetitive, so it was important that he didn't mind being bored. All it included was that the elevator door would open, and Tim would smile and say, "What floor can I take you to?" Whoever had gotten on would instruct him with the floor they needed, leaving Tim's final step of his job to be pressing the button. Easy enough, because the numbers went in order. Basement at the bottom, 25 at the top.
Despite being fine with boredom, the operator was still pretty glad when his wristwatch buzzed to inform him that it was time for his break, about two and a half hours into his six hour shift. He sent the elevator back down to the ground level, took off his gloves to tuck into his pocket, and went to the break room. -
Mercury shook away the thoughts. He wasn't want to get involved with workers, anyways. That in mind, he headed up to his brother's office, stopping to get a cup of coffee on his way. He didn't bother to knock on the door, but used his hip to push it open. Merc kicked the edge of his brother's chair in order to wake him from his nap. Elliot woke with a start, shaking his head, yawing.
"Merc," He mumbled, holding his hand out for the coffee. The younger grinned, and handed the cup over. "Aleece kept you up again last night, hm?" Aleece was Elliot's new-born baby girl, and with her and his two-year-old son, he hadn't been sleeping very well. Elliot nodded to confirm his assumption, downing about half of the coffee. He dropped his head back onto the desk, and his eyes drifted shut again. Mercury laughed a bit, leaving, heading to the break room. -
In the break room, Tim guided himself to a couch that was nestled on the right wall of the room. Sitting on it made the thing creak in complaint, the wear of it obvious from so many uses over the long while it'd been in the room. The man wasn't much of a coffee drinker, and held off on lunch until his second break. So the first break of the day was sitting, relaxing his legs from where they'd been standing all morning.
His phone- a simple blackberry keypad phone- buzzed in his pocket. Amelia had, again, decided to text him instead of call him. He'd bought her a phone a few weeks back so that in the case of labor taking place, she could inform him, but she was just using it to text him whiny things about wanting food even though he didn't find out what the texts had said until he got home later. -
(Sorry, I was using a really crappy mobile device last night, and I didn't want to reply on it for risk of crappy short reply. ^^"")
Mercury stopped along the way to check on his workers, and say hi to a few of the guests. The women at the front desk, Jordan, smiled politely at him, and he returned it with a wave of his hand. About a year ago, the two had dated for a bit, but it had never really gone too far. They were still friends, though, and Merc enjoyed seeing her.
One of the groups of guests he greeted happened to be one of his regulars, a man who often had business trips here, and would sometimes bring his family along. He had two little girls, and three little boys, all one year apart, ages ranging from five to one. Merc loved children, he truly did- But that was a bit much. He laughed, though, and took it in good heart as the group raced around the lobby, playing hide and seek behind the plants. He shook hands with the man, told him to enjoy his stay, and then headed off.
Right before he got into the break room, Alec caught him by the arm. The young man began to tell him that there was a huge problem. All of the phones in the guest rooms had stopped working. Mercury sighed, and ran a hand through his hair. "Great. That's just great." -
(It's fine xD)
He sighed, wondering if it was worth it to find someone to tell him what the text said. It was almost something he was leaning towards, considering that Amelia's due date was in a week and the baby could come at any moment.
Of course, he was progressively feeling less and less sympathy towards her. The man had never wanted to have sex with her, let alone be her child's father. So, if the baby did come while he was at work, he would let her take the ride to the hospital on her own. It may seem cold but the only reason he let the woman stay in his home was because he felt some form of responsibility to take care of the little girl-to-be-born that will otherwise be on the streets with a less than suitable mother. -
The younger assistant had to jog to keep up with Merc's long strides as he headed towards the room that housed all the hotel's electrical things. Merc wasn't good with stuff like that, and he didn't plan to try to fix this himself, less he burn the building down. No, he just suspected something. And, when he reached the room, he found that he was completely correct. The wires that connected to each room's phone had been slit. Merc had suspected foul play, and, apparently, rightly so. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened. Last week, the hotel kitchen had been supplied with fifty plus boxes of baby food. Mercury's brother hadn't been happy about that, and the manager figured that he wouldn't be happy about this either.
Alec, though, in an attempt to split his worry, offered a quick, "There's a camera, you know." -
As an elevator operator, Timothy had a fifteen minute break where he did mostly nothing. Just rest his legs and eat lunch during his second one.
About four minutes into the break, the door clicked open, and then shut again. Tim straightened up when a pointedly masculine voice called him. "Tim! Good to see you. I don' see you that often lately, with my schedule changin' and all," greeted the voice that slowly approached, until the other side of the couch sunk to occupy the mass of muscle and brawn that was Reddion, the security guard. The guy leaned back with a sigh, his own break apparently overlapping with Tim's that day.
"Mhm, you've been working the later hours since last month," Tim commented, resulting in a little silence where he assumed Reddion had nodded.
"Yah. Not to busy around in the mornin', but I've got things to do later so I traded shifts with Matthias." -
"Yeah, I know. But, Alec, wanna know a secret? It's pointed the wrong direction!" He hadn't meant to snap at the man, but he had, and he instantly regretted it, seeing worry cloud over the younger man's eyes. Merc took a deep breath, rubbed the back of his neck, and sighed. "Look. Go.. Go tell the guests that we'll have the phones working again as soon as possible." The raven-haired boy took off without a word. A pang of guilt twinged Merc's heart, but he just shook his head and headed towards the break room.
He opened the door a bit wearily, peeking in. The room was full, as always. Kitchen staff, bell hops, maids.. And then, in the corner, Tim. Mercury sucked in a breath, spotting the security guard next to him. Mercury turned his attention away, and onto one of the maids, chatting with her. A bit into the conversation, he directed her to leave coupons for free drinks at their in-hotel restaurant in each of the rooms.
