shush it was one time)
"Isn't it amazing?" Edward asked, calling loudly to be heard over the waves. The smooth wind blowing his hair back, the faint smell of salt in the air, the rhythmic rocking of the boat...It was all so soothing to him. -
(still)
"No," He mumbled, not near loud enough to be heard. He scooted down a ways, further away from Edward. -
how dare you judge him)
The captain, seeing that Maurice had no interest in him, turned away. It was frustrating. Even when his prisoners hated him, they at least layed him attention when they were yelling. But Maurice didn't even acknowledge him. -
(Meh)
The boy continued to think about his home, recalling every fond memory of it he could.
His favorite, though, was when David had proposed to him. He had just turned eighteen, and had been having a pretty bad day, from getting a rib broken by the new milk cow, to being refused pain killers at the doctors. And then, laying in bed, totally unattractive with his face all contorted in pain, David had dropped next to him and began on of those silly little speeches. He hadn't even gotten three sentences in before Maurice had cut him off with a pain-drunken sounding "Yes, and please.. Shut up. My head hurts." He had fallen asleep and woken with a ring on his finger, and hardly any memory of the event. -

oh god I didn't even see you post I'm sorry D:)
Edward glanced over at where Maurice was directed his gaze and gave a slight nod of understanding. The little island, Maurice's home, was growing smaller and smaller in the distance as the ship crashed through the mild waves. It didn't really have a destination, it was simply if they happened upon an island, they would land and attack it, taking food and supplies and men and women. No real responsibities, and that was how Edward liked it. -
(Tis okay)
Maurice twisted the cold, sea-mist wet band on his finger, trying hard not to think of his current situation. He would think of anything but it.
His family.
He was one of four boys, the youngest of them. The oldest, Eliseo, had left home when he was twelve. He became a blacksmith, and died in a barn fire a few years ago. After him was Mareth, who had taken up preaching. He and Maurice didn't get along well. Mareth had been killed in a shooting only a month ago. That left Maurice's only brother being the one that he was a year and two months apart from, Cade. Cade was a working man, selling for one of the big companies. Him and Maurice were close, and always had been. He couldn't help but wonder how Cade would react to him being missing. -
Edward's gaze drifted back to Maurice, and he felt another surge of frustration. He just couldn't tell what the man was thinking, and it bothered him. He was so used to being able to read people, but with Maurice it was different. He could go out and ask him, but then it wouldn't be him figuring what Maurice was thinking, and besides that, he probably wouldn't even answer. Sighing in a rather agitated way, the captain looked back out over the sea. He could faintly make out a few shapes at the very edge of the horizon. A long way away, but a nourney of a few days was nothing to the practiced sailor. He barked a few orders to the crew as the ship turned towards the distant land.
-
Maurice listened as the ship was turned towards the new piece of land, and after a moment of hesitation, walked over to Edward, his hands on his hips. "That land, right there. When we get there, you're going to let me off," He demanded. He knew it was bold, and would get him in trouble, but still, it needed to be said.
-
Edward chuckled, his eyes bright with amusement as he took in the suddenly defiant air around Maurice. "And just what makes you think I'm going to do that?" He asked with a grin. In truth, part of him wanted to keep Maurice on board, to keep him close until he could finally understand the man, who was so different from himself.
-
"The fact that I will kill you in your sleep if you don't." He narrowed his eyes, trying to act menacing. Edward could very well leave him tied up all day if it came to that.

Edward laughed, not a chuckle but a real laugh. He grinned brightly at Maurice. "You? Kill me?" He asked incredulously. "In case you hadn't noticed, you haven't got a weapon, and I'm afraid you're terribly outmatched." He wasn't bragging, but it was a fact. Maurice was only a farmer, at least that's all Edward saw him as. He posed no threat to the trained swordsman.

"A sleeping man cannot defend himself." He returned his attention back to the ocean.
