"I've only ever known force.." Kendall muttered lightly. He bit his lip and focused on his black dress shoes. He listened to them clank against the pavement, breaking the silent sound of the still night.

"Force? As in what?" Ryan asks.

"The way they teach us is forceful." Kendall blurted. His hands automatically flew to his mouth when he did this. He did not mean to say such a cruel thing about the government, or Candor! Kendall mentally scolded himself for saying such a vile thing.

"Do they alow you to speak?" Ryan asks. "In Abnegation we're not allowed to speak unless spoken to by an adult."

"They encourage us to speak. Always speak what's on your mind- truthfully. Do not bend what you think as you say it, say it the way you had thought it." Kendall sighed as he recited Candor's twisted rule. "It's quite confusing, actually."

"Why do we even have factions?" Ryan wondered.

"Because it's a way to make our government flow, a way to maintain a stable, peacefull society." Kendall was slightly taken aback by what he had said. He had started to sound like Erudite..

Ryan smirks. "Peaceful. Ha. I heard that Marcus Edison beat his kid. So much for selflessness," he muttered."

"That surely can't be true. I'm sure you doubt Abnegation would do a thing?" Kendall asked, biting the side of his cheek with a medium amount of force.

Ryan shrugs. "You never know really. I personally think he should be factionless. You don't beat your own son, that's just-" Ryan couldn't even finish.

Kendall tilted his head, "I always thought of Abenegation as the caring, loving people. Like Amity in a way." He then continued, "Your values are quite similar to Amity, when you think about it."

"We're selfless but stupid," Ryan says. "Amity is peaceful and stupid. So I guess we're not too far off."

"You both lead simple, caring lives. Amity doesn't reject vanity, however, and they have lots of excitement it them. Abnegation rejects vanity, and seems to be silent most of the time." Kendall mused.

Ryan nodded, pretending to understand half the words he just said.

Kendall smiled, looking to him, "I guess I'm starting to sound like a Erudite, huh?"
