The thought that he had killed the previous alpha slipped her mind. She stopped in her tracks, frozen. "I'm not gonna age....am I?" she asked quietly.
-
"No, you won't." He looked her over. "I'd say you chose a good time to stop aging."
-
"Well I don't think being 17 for forever is a good thing. What about college, my friends...my brother...?" She asked, already knowing the answers. She would never be able to live a normal life. Everyone around her would grow old and die, while she would stay young, forever.
-
He sighed. "I'm sorry, it's terrible. You'll get over it though, somewhat."
-
"Yea, somewhat...." she mumbled, looking down at the ground as they walked.
-
"And I'm sorry if he--" He stopped as he found his brother kneeling at the edge of the trees, the pack cabin in the distance. Before him was wolf Cassandra's body. She looked so small and weak, none of her humanity still intact.
-
She stopped next to him, falling silent as she laid eyes upon the person, and the dead one. "Oh my god....I'm so sorry..." she whispered, the guilt overwhelming her.
-
Clancy looked up, smelling the essence of his deceased mate. "Oh," he murmured, narrowing his eyes slightly as he looked her over.
-
She stayed quiet, noticing the similarities between him, and Lyall.
-
Lyall reached over and took Everly by the hand, leading her away from the mourning werewolf. He walked up the cabin steps and opened the door, leaving it open for her.
-
"Who was he?" she asked, walking into the cabin. A million different scents attacked her.
-
"He's my brother, Clancy. The wolf you killed was his mate. He's usually laid back, but if he tries anything you don't like, tell me. Some of us have trouble with our mate's essence being transferred to another who may not necessarily to continue the relationship." He walked back into the kitchen and poured himself another cup of coffee, since it was still somewhat warm.
-
"Um...alright." she agreed, leaning against the counter. She felt bad for his brother, in a way. Even though it wasn't her fault that she killed Cassandra, she was still dead.
-
"How old is your brother?" he asked, hoping to change the subject.
-
"He's 14." she answered.
