Charlotte stood up and smiled back at him, holding out her hand to offer him a ticket.
"Your timing is a little better this time." she noted, glancing up at the clock. "Looks like we're not going to have time for casual conversation this time."
She lifted the bucket of popcorn up to her face and took a piece quickly with the tips of her lips, careful not to touch any with her tongue for his sake. When she had her piece, she held the bucket out beside the tickets for him, shaking it a bit to even out the little gap she'd made munching while she'd waited. -
"I try." Dan let out a faint laugh and took the ticket.
"Yeah. I guess so."
He reached out his hand to Charlotte, to help her get up.
"Shall we?"
He wasn't sure if offering to take her hand was appropriate at this time, but he didn't have a bad feeling about it. Why would it be? He was just offering to help her get up.
"I'm just over thinking it." Dan thought to himself. -
"And here my punctuality is effortless." she said with a grin, taking his hand and pulling at it savagely to get herself to her feet. She steadied herself on his shoulder and took a few steps in the direction of the screening room.
"This is going to be lovely. Time spent doing something other than work."
She decided to leave out all the running she was going to have to do later to catch up. -
"You know, I believe taking time and not taking it too seriously produces better results...even in my job." Dan winked. For a moment it seemed really weird, an assassin on a "date" with a woman to win her heart. But business is business.
"So, I hope you like horror movies, and um...with serial killers in it?" Daniel asked while looking at her to see her reaction. They'd agreed to horror last night, but serial killer and murder wasn't mentioned. -
Charlotte shrugged, glancing up at the time board.
"Seems fine. I just hope this isn't one of those 'let's see how many violent deaths we can show without having a coherent storyline' kind of movies. Like Saw, you know? No, maybe there's a little bit of a storyline there, but you know."
She paused, puffing out her cheeks irritably.
"I just said 'you know' twice in as many sentences. How redundant. I'm sorry. I'm working on it." -
"Yeah me too. This one isn't that bad, or at least I've heard so." Dan smiled.
They made their way towards the screening room, there was 5 minutes left till the start.
"So, um, what's kind of movies do you prefer? I'm guessing something like a combination of mystery, drama and...um...horror? And maybe a bit romance. Oh I'm probably wrong anyway." -
"Mm. Yeah, that's pretty much it." she said agreeably, nodding as she ate another few pieces of popcorn. That was always the thing with movie theater popcorn. It was always halfway gone before the film even began. She blinked and glanced down at the ground, almost having forgotten what she was meant to be doing.
"Popcorn?" she said with a meek smile and a sidelong glance from her seat. She held the bucket out for him. -
"Oh thanks."
The lights suddenly went off and the screen turned on. The movie was about to start. Frankly, Dan didn't really feel like watching it. But he hadn't any better idea than movies for today.
"I hope this won't suck." -
The movie began with an overly grand title sequence consisting of short shots of the protagonists from angles meant to suggest that they were being watched. Frankly, Charlotte found it to be tame and entirely predictable, but when the killer was revealed by a brief flash of lightning to be standing just outside the window, she took her opportunity.
With a little whimper, she jumped and leaned toward him to clutch his arm tightly.
"Jesus." she breathed, eyes wide as she stared at the screen. -
Tall, bald, with a masculine build. The sudden appearance of the supposed killer outside the window with a huge hammer sent shivers down Dan's spines, not because it was scary, just so creepy and sudden.
"I know." With his other hand, Dan caressed her hands. He decided not to think so much about what was happening now and just go with his instincts. -
(btw I love that account)
-
By the time the first protagonist had died, Charlotte had forgotten all about the placement of her hands. The movie wasn't very interesting, but she entertained herself imagining how awkward it would be to act out the deaths and the horrified screaming. This exercise led to a few inappropriate snorts of laughter at a few violent scenes, but got her through the movie without dozing off.
(She expresses her thanks.) -
Despite the decent beginning, the movie wasn't that good, but it wasn't so bad to laugh at it, as Charlotte had done a few times. The girl was a big mystery to Dan, but still it was only 2 days.
When the movie neared the end, Dan suddenly got aware of their position; He was wrapping his right arm around Charlotte and she was leaning towards him. Though he didn't try to readjust himself and only waited for the movie to end. -
(dude you probably thought I hadn't posted)
-
(Oh dear. She extends her sincerest apologies. She was away all day yesterday.)
Charlotte sat up in her seat, finally releasing his arm as the end credits began to scroll.
"Well that was a fun time. Very fun. We should do it again sometime. And maybe have even more fun." she said, standing up and offering him the remainder of the popcorn. Not surprisingly, their consumption of it had appeared to slow considerably once their minds had become preoccupied with the movie. There was still half a bucket left, but she accredited that to the huge sizes the theater offered. It was either a tiny bag or a gigantic f---ing bucket. There was no in between.
