"Well, of course. We'll probably be there by sunrise, so..."
-
"I feel like we still have more time...ah well.." He sighed lightly, his leg shaking as he quickly tapped the heel of his foot.
-
She nodded, and there was a momentary silence. Finally, she spoke. "Tell me a story."
-
"What kind of story?" Zander looked up at her, his chin in his palm.
-
"Any story. I like your voice, and I want to know anything about you that you can share."
-
"My voice, huh? Well, I can't really think of anything other than the clumsy wolf my brother and I encountered."
-
"Tell me about that, then." She reached over and turned off the radio so she could give him her full attention.
-
He waved his hand a bit. "Just some mutt. The funniest thing I'd ever seen really. Everything it did, it failed at, and it couldn't catch us no matter how hard it tried. Trees? The damn thing broke the branches from its weight. When it tried to charge Kayle, it stumbled and tripped over its own feet. I'd never seen such a pathetic werewolf! Absolutely hilarious to watch.."
-
"They actually turn entirely into wolves?" she asked.
-
"Some can. Others are half and half. Just depends."
-
"So wait, what else exists?" She was prepared to forget all of the stereotypes she'd been raised on in human society.
-
"Just about everything in childhood fantasy. Mermaids are very secretive creatures though, and they look nothing like what you humans envision. They're true monsters and sirens. Zombies don't exist yet, but one day they might. Demons, ghosts and spirits, nymphs which are annoying to get rid of. All kinds of things."
-
"That's really cool. I remember seeing something, once, when I was little... No one believed me." She smiled. "But they were wrong. So ha."
-
"Humans like to deny we exist, and some of us try to hide so they can continue to deny it. But you're a smart woman, Anna. You know better..." He smiled warmly at her.
-
"Thank you," she said, a small smile growing on her face.
