Barkpaw came to a stop behind him, a little unsure since this was her first hunt.
-
Bearpaw turned around and smiled at her. "You'll do fine!" He reassured her.
-
She sighed, but smiled. "Whatever you say..."
-
"I'll try hunting over here." Bearpaw meowed before bounding off.
-
Barkpaw nodded and headed off another way.
-
Bearpaw soon spotted a rabbit in a small meadow. The silver tom crouched down, and slowly snuck forward sonhe was just behind the treeline. His twitching tail shifted a couple of dried leaves, making a rustling sound. The rabbit's head shot up, looking around for the source of the sound. Knowing that it was now or never, he ran forward, leapt onto the rabbit just as it was taking a few steps, and bit it's spine, killing it instantly.
-
After two missed attempts with the same pesky squirrel, Barkpaw was determined to catch something and show that she was capable of hunting for the clan. Her tabby pelt blended well into the tree trunks as she slunk forward, focused on a particularly large mouse just a few tail lengths away.
-
After hiding his rabbit from any pesky foxes and other scavengers, Bearpaw quickly took down a plump mouse. He hid it with the rabbit, then returned to where he and Barkpaw had separated. The gray tom followed her scent trail to find her trying to catch a mouse. Resisting the urge to laugh, he stood a bit away, watching.
-
Barkpaw crouched down, trying her best to mimic the form Bearpaw had showed her yesterday. She twitched her whiskers and sprang forward, managing to snag the mouse and kill it before it could scamper off. She grinned to herself and lifted the prey in her jaws.
-
"Good job!" Bearpaw meowed, padding forward.
-
Barkpaw jumped about five feet in the air and nearly dropped the mouse. She whirled around, sighing in relief when she saw it was only Bearpaw. She set her catch down and gave him an exasperated look. "Don't sneak up on me like that!"
-
Bearpaw laughed. "But it's funny to see you jump a whole foxlenght into the air!" His laughter faded into chuckles, and he smiled. "Seriously, though, you did do good."
-
She smiled back. "You really think so?" She asked eagerly, flicking her tail excitedly.
-
"Yeah! You'll be a great hunter! " Bearpaw meowed happily.
-
"I'm sure you'll be better." She insisted with a smile.
