Religion is all an opinion. A perspective if you will.
@Skyler; I'll be honest, Mormonism has always eluded me, but with the stories that I do understand, and with my own personal out take on them, I gave an analogy connecting the major religions of the world in a way I thought everyone could take humoresly and yet still understand the relationship. The moral of my story was simple: Almost all modern religion has some basis in the Judeic Texts. If you found what I said offensive, you're either looking for a reason to be offended, or you're suck a stickler about religion that you can't laugh at yourself sometimes. In either case, you're going to have a really bad time talking with me.
@Geek; I wouldn't use the word hate. In some tenses it is a very strong word and gives the wrong impression of my viewpoints. And yet in other tenses it isn't strong enough.
I spent years going to a Christian School. I studied religion and I was proud of the God I beleived in. But there were things that didn't make sense to me. Any time I would ask a question in school, I was told I was very inquisitive and it was a good thing. But whenever I asked a question about "God" I was told that God was mysterious and that I shouldn't ask those questions. That didn't set well with me.
I eventually got tired of asking my teachers and preacher, and I moved on and searched outside sources. I was overwhelmed by the tidal wave of other religions out there. I had heard of them before, but never before had anyone actually known enough about them to explain them. So I started studying. I learned as much as I could about any religion I found. I was amazed at how diverse they were, and yet they all had one thing in common. "God works in mysterious ways; you aren't supposed to ask questions."
So I found the one thing that I trust to be honest with me; Science. "If we know the answer, we'll explain it as much as we can. If we don't, we'll admit that and tell you our ideas. And if something new comes out that disproves what we thought we knew, we'll start looking into it more."
No religion is willing to admit it was wrong. They all claim unrefutable truth even when the evidence against them is overwhelming. So why should I trust any of them. Further more, if you are religious, why do you trust one and not the others? They make the same claims after all. -
You gotta trust something XD
(just as I havent seen a non christian in the flesh for a while)
Say 1 reason why christianity is not true.
(just for fun) -
The burdon of proof lies on the person making the claim. Saying, "You can't prove there isn't a God." Does not automatically mean that there is. It's faulty logic.
So let me ask you this, give me one scientific fact that proves there is? -
JesusIsTheWay NewbieHhhhmmmm well skyler I must say that when I read the believing in Jesus Christ part I was impressed, but the part b4 that? Not soo much. Satan and his angels are the only spirits that lived in heaven and were cast down. Never ever humans, we were made by God from dust.
-
You don't believe God made our souls in heaven, JITW?
-
You can't disprove God, but I've found that I've been able to make a damn good educated guess.
-
Actually, I should rephrase this, or at least explain what I think. xP
I believe souls are energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but always exists. So before we were on earth, that energy was with God. -
JesusIsTheWay NewbieHhhmmm interesting energy theory, Cherry, God did not create us in heaven a long time ago and then we sinned and he put us into our flesh as punishment, that is not correct to say the least. Cherry I believe that God formed Adam from the dust and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. That breath of life is our soul when we have it we live. Our souls are the real eternal us.
-
I agree, it is the real eternal us, though I disagree with you on how that came about. God said he made us in his image, which I don't believe to be 'human', but our spirit. They often say that when you die you see the light, so God in some way embodies light and higher energy. So I don't view God as 'the old man in the sky', but the ultimate being of power and righteousness.
-
JesusIsTheWay NewbieVery good! But i don't know why I'm not comftable with calling God energy, energy is non living. He is alive forever more. And he made us in his image in human which is the same image we are in our souls.
