Thread Topic: What is a god?
-
a serious question.
What are the requirements for being a "God"? -
tongue AdvancedKind of depends on the religion. I know Christianity would say God is "all powerful, all benevolent, and knows all". Benevolence isn't really a tenant of God in other religions though. The Hindu god Vishnu, the god of destruction, is a good example. So we'll say a god wields some kind of power over the universe and knows all.

Well lets check. Gods arent immortal (roman and egyptian)
Gods arent all knowing (romans, egyptians, norse)
From what I can tell, a God is a being who can alter reality to their own will.
That sounds an awful lot like a wizard to me.
I see no difference? -
To me a God is someone who created all man kind. He is humble, caring and forgiving. And that is why we worship him. It hurts God when he has to punish us for doing terrible things. God excepts anyone in his kingdom that is truly sorry for there sins. And he is not judgemental.
That's kind of how I see God. (I know it kinda reminds of you of my God but that's kinda how I see him) -

I often compare God to a puppy. He doesn't care if your rich or poor, dumb or smart, he loves you unconditionally.
That's my opinion on God.(Or a God) -
crap i doulbe posted!

"To me a God is someone who created all man kind"
Tell that to any roman, or norse god.
"He is humble, caring, and forgiving"
Tell that to any roman or egyptian god.
ps. forgiveness requires them to have judged you as bad in the first place. Completely against, 'not judgemental'.
"And that is why we worship him."
Zeus was the same way. Why dont we worship him?
"It hurts God when he has to punish us for doing terrible things."
Terrible requires a judgement. And doing something a creator didnt want would require free will. But how can free will coexist with divine preordination?
"God excepts anyone in his kingdom that is truly sorry for their sins"
That's right. Appologize for being human, so a wizard who sacrificed himself to himself to save you from your crimes for being human can save you again from your crimes of being human. Makes total sense.
"And he is not judgemental"
wow.. I've already stated my opinion on that part. -
Depends on the religion, but essentially a being that is a higher power and usually is worshipped by followers of the religion based around said deity.

No offense or anything. That girl was just stating her opinion. She didn't say anything to you to make you that rude. You don't have to be that way, just because you don't belive what she believes.
-
Give me a reason not to.
I'm simply stating the flaws and circular thinking in her ideas. Until you can outdo me, I see no reason why I should stop pointing out flawed idiology. -
Sorry if I made anyone mad. (If you were all talking about me) I didn't mean to offend anyone.
I hope no one is mad at me. -
wow of course you were talking about me. *hits self on the forhead*
Just please don't be mad at me.... I hate starting fights. -
Please I'm a really sensitive and vunerable person. Please be nice.
-
Dont worry Kiki. They're mad at me for pointing out holes in your idea. Nobody is mad at you. :)
