I could be wrong, just because there is no evidence does not mean that the religion did not exist at a certain time. Guess we will never know
Dang, why did they not write like anything back then? -
I will say, a lot of religions share similar stories to Christianity as they were appropriated by the religion.
E.g Noah's arc appears to have been stolen from either the sumerians or the greeks, most likley both.
That's not say that Christinaity isn't real, but it is highly disrespectful to argue that it is the "real" one because you think it is the oldest
From what I remember from my theology class Christianity is only around 1,500 years old.
Very young for a religion ngl.
All religions are real and valid, unless they advocate for the harm or injury of others. Then they're not good religions.
They can co-exist for the most part.
So I wouldn't personally agree over which God is real when it's likley they all are. -
So, you agree that there is a god but you don’t know which one?
-
No you're misunderstanding me, I agree that there are God's. I agree that every religions God's are most likley real and valid.
There isn't one single higher God.
The Christian God? Real
The Greek pantheon? Real
The roman pantheon? Real
For example, I'm pagan and worship a variety of God's from different pantheon.
To say only one culture is correct is just insane, imo. -
Ok!
I don’t agree, but I respect your opinion! -
..hm
-
You misunderstand, all are ( real) and Valid unless they're harmful.
Religions that advocate for harm are not valid religions. They're not ones I would support.
Theyre still someone else's belief system, which does make them true.
But makes them morally incorrect.
It's case by case imo.
For some people I think their religious practices are harmful, while for others of the same religion I find their views absolutely fine and valid. -
How do we know if Noah's ark was stolen, and not referencing an actual event? The type of boat that the Bible describes is very detailed and could likely function, and it's not too outlandish to consider that it might have been referencing the thing that the Greeks, Sumerians, and Ancient Chinese (I think it was Chinese, not entirely sure though) were referencing, or that it was the original reference
Christianity may seem a bit young, but its root is from Judaism, which is a very old religion and it shares many aspects with it
I'm not sure how religions can co-exist? Seeing as Christianity is basically founded in the idea that there is only one God and no others, which is the same for quite a few other religions so I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that /genq -
Yeah it doesn’t make much sense to me either
-
Not trying to be rude, but can you plz explain your logic
-
What I'm saying is we as people can correlate within our religions. Maybe not the religions themselves.
I say, all God's are real because of how incredibily cruel it is to tell a person of faith their God isn't real, because "my god is better"
Besides, most of the text that says " only one god" is written by humans. Not the gods themselves.
So, if you take a look at cultures completely isolated from Christianity pre-their invasions and crusades, you'll notices a distinct lack of any sort of Christian themes, and that their stories are not anywhere in religious text, until the Christians invade that are.
as an Irish person our history and culture were stolen and erased by that religion ( specifically Catholicism).
You'll need to research it yourself mostly, so you can find sources that you're more willing to believe than me.
But yeah, the great flood idea? Def an actual event that occurred in real human history.
The specifics of what happened? Stolen and mismatched from multiple cultures.
I was raised catholic, and due to extreme trauma as a result of the religion, I turned away to it and found paganism.
Which more or less saved my life.
So whenever I read something that even slightly implies my gods are "fake" it's distressint. -
You cannot know if any god is real or fake, even if you truly believe in them. It is unfair to tell someone their god is fake, just like it is unfair for religious people to tell me they know what's best for me.
On the other hand though I personally don't use language like "all gods are real," because again I can't prove that..I also can never get behind coexist because I recognize that some religions have fundamental differences and asking them to coexist is asking them to deny their essential beliefs. Someone who believes in living in harmony with nature and doing no harm and someone who believes it's their duty to conquer the world and kill anyone who disagrees with them can never peacefully live together.
However, if your religious beliefs do not advocate for the harm of another human being them I will never never tell you your beliefs are bad or wrong. If you ask for a theological or logical debate on them I'll play devil's advocate, but it's not my place nor am I am enlightened enough individual to condemn any belief system. -
I was not trying to be rude, I was just wondering lol
Thanks anyway for your explanation -
Um not saying I agree or disagree with anything here. But from a Christian perspective, Christianity is not the oldest religion. And I say "religion" because the start of Christianity starts with Abraham, not with Adam and Eve. From there, Christians get their first covenant with God.
From Abraham, you get three major religions. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
There are a ton of sources outside of the Bible that reference things such as a great flood, or even have their own creation accounts. But not all accounts are the same.
Every religion has an ounce of truth to it. Does that mean it's absolute truth? No. It also depends if you believe in absolute truth.
I would also add that the Bible does not deny the existence of other gods. There's a lot you can interpret from that sentence, but there's multiple references in the Bible to gods and spiritual forces. From a Christian perspective, the bottom line is that the God of the Bible is the ultimate power. -
That's actually a really good point!
The point that the bible makes, is that Christians must only worship one God, as a monotheistic religion.
And while, later on Christians used this as an excuse to claim other gods were demons, witches or just heroes who totally aren't gods, the actual bible didn't seem to deny or was even against other religions.
I dont think any religion is absolute truth, but I do think every God that is worshipped exists, because that's kind of how gods work. If you don't believe in them, they fail to exist. Religion is a school of thought and worship. If you have no worship, and no stories then how can you exist?
That's more of a personal opinion than anything concrete!
As a pagan who worships gods from multiple pantheon, I believe that all pantheon are real and true.
Who those gods are depends on who you ask.
Some religions regard Lilith as a demon, while others regard her as a Goddess for example.
