I keep telling my parents that I'm agnostic, but they keep telling me that I'm a Christian and that I'm not allowed to not believe in God. I had an argument with my mother this morning because I asked her to change the channel on the TV since a preacher was talking about God and I got really bored, so I suggested cartoons. My mom got really mad at me, and said that I need Jesus more in my life. I said, "No, I don't need God in my life. Nobody even knows if he exists or not."
And then we had this conversation back and forth.
Mom: God is real.
Me: How do you know? Don't you have any evidence to back up that claim?
Mom: I don't need evidence.
Me: Yes you do. I'm not convinced that God is real.
Mom: I swear.. keep saying that and I'm gonna make you go to church every Sunday.
Me: Why should I worship a god that I don't really believe in? Same goes for Allah, you're not worshiping him because you don't believe in him.
Mom: You're Christian.
Me: That's not fair, you're not giving me the free will to have my own beliefs.
Mom: When you're 18, you can decide what's fair.
Me: Um...?
Then she threatened to hit me and take away all of my electronics and she got super mad at me. And my dad? He doesn't do jack s---. He just agrees with her and stays out of it.
Why won't my parents just accept the fact that I don't want to be a Christian? They just keep threatening to hit me and yelling at me and they keep telling me that I'm not allowed to have my own beliefs when it comes to religion. I've also told them about my possible attraction to girls, and then they said I wasn't allowed to like girls. So... -
Sorry. I just needed to get that out.

Beverlyreagan NoviceBecause parents are parents.
I am a christan and if i wanted to be say a muzzlem they would die.
Well not a mozlem... If i did nit believe they would force it in me. God semt arents to protect you and guide you like god would so ALL parents christans or not they are going ti tell you what you are and what you are not
I hope it makes you feel a but better -
I hope you feel a but better, atleast you aren't a muzzlem.

I suggest just going along with your parents for now, but still think whatever you want to think and believe. They can't control your mind, that's all yours. If they force you to go to church, then listen to what the preacher says, but if you don't think it's right, then don't believe in it. Don't say anything about what you believe to them again though because it sounds like they're getting abusive, and I don't want you to get hurt.

Thank you guys.

They are just trying to help, but I will say that that is a pretty bad way of doing it.
-
Dude who gives a care wht your parents think xD if they want to think your Christian so bad then let them think it.
And ehy would you tell them your sexually attracted to anyone xD seriously thats just not neccesery. They dont need to know whos pants you want to get into. -
They are your parents and they have the right to tell you what to do.
-
Percie your views are really weird.
I don't agree with the whole "parents should tell you what to do until you're 18" stuff, it doesn't make any sense. To get told what to do until you're 18 and then suddenly you can do what you want after 18 years of not being able to think for yourself? How are you supposed to handle that all of a sudden. -
Not wierd I would say different. Look, they are elder than us they have more knowledge and experience than us. So of course they know what is the best for us and whatever they tell us to do will be beneficial for us only. They have reasons for their existence too.
-
OK I agree they probably want to do the best for us, but being older doesn't mean they're right and should tell you what to do.
You're attitude is unusual for a young person. I mean how can you grow and learn to think for yourself if you're following everything you're told? -
My parents don't tell me everything to do, they tell me only where it is required.
-
*your
-
But when is it required? You said it's acceptable for Brownie's parents to tell her what to do about religion, and that's not necessary
