Thread Topic: What do you guys think of people with anorexia?

I personally think they should eat more? Because isnt that hurting your body? It causes a lot of health problems and weakness. Also, doesn't it affect the brain?
But then there are those who make fun of people with anorexia. Totally disgree with that.
Tell me your opinions. -
Well they decided not to eat in the first place because they want to be thinner, so saying they should say more won't really help. I think it's a mental illness, they might know it's damaging their body but they don't care or can't control it.
-
As one who's gone through that and not truely recovered yet, I can say tjat I didn't care about the effects. Food made me sick, the idea of eating made me sick, it does affect the brain as every eating disorder is a form of mental illness.
-
It is very damaging. It's lethal. It can end your life. When that person with anorexia gets old, they are going to be so bone skinny that they will be weak. Weaker than an average elderly person. It's a mental illness;I can agree with that. But being skinny isn't always the best. That anorexic person could have been attractive (as an example) when they were normal. But when they decided to quit eating, they changed their appearance somewhat. No more full round face; instead, they have really thin skin, huge eye bags and maybe even their head can look really big as if that same weight of their head was heavier than the rest of their body.
Anorexia isn't a joke. It isn't all laughter and giggles. The anorexic ones might not be themselves while being anorexic.
Sorry that this was long, but that's one of things I think when it comes down to anorexia nervosa. -
When they get old? They probably won't get old if they have it for decades.
-
That's true, but I was making that example as if they had anorexia as an adult. But they might have the appearance of looking old even when that person is in their teens. Sinc they quit eating, their skin is so thin, veins are so wiry and too visible and their eyes have big huge eye bags, they could look older than their actual age.
But anorexia....it's too...gosh, I can't even explain it in words...It's too...lethal+deadly. I have never had anorexia or anything that relates to those kind of disorders, but it must be painful, don't you think? -
Did no one teach you about this in school?
-
(who was that directed to in particular?)
Anyways, they teach you that at school, or at least they should teach you at school in health class (which is a class we have at my school) -
It was directed at Rosio. This thread and that first post are riddled with ignorance.
-
I don't think they teach about it in school. I'm pretty sure I only learnt about it from media/TV.
-
An entire unit in Health was dedicated to eating disorders in my school. I understand that some schools don't follow that curriculum, which is why I asked whether they'd taught her about it or not.
-
No, we did not learn about that in health class. We focused more on sex related topics, not disorders. Didn't know my lack of education on the topic was laced with ignorance. Not my fault if you are calling me ignorant.
-
I also didn't look old. Wtf are you talking about?
-
They do not realize they have a health problem, they view them selves differently as well. People with bulimia are more likely to know they have a problem because they are causing themselves to flush out the food. However with anorexia the person may just think they are not hungry. It happens like this until it becomes a habit. I believe the cause of this is usually pressure from the world and it's false view of beauty.
-
Sometimes they do realize though)
