Thread Topic: I hate how people label themselves as "emo"

It's a damn music genre, not a style! People who label themselves as "emo" are pathetic people who want attention.
IT'S A MUSIC GENRE, NOT A STYLE.
If you want people to take you seriously stop labeling yourselves. -
Whiplash Newbiethen how should they label themselves. What type of person would they be called?
-
I find idiot works well for almost any clique.
-
Goth.
-
Whiplash Newbiegoth is sooo different then people labeled emo
-
How? Elaborate.
-
Whiplash Newbiegoth-world sucks, everyone else and everything else is pointless, they depress others by existing
emo-they suck, can't do anything right, mostly oneswho are depressed about everything, self harm and commit suicide -
I really don't know then.. I thought goths felt the same?
-
Whiplash NewbieWell then, you were wrong. Why label yourself emo if your a goth. This shows they are totally different groups with different views.
-
why use stupid labels at all when we can all just be people nyan

or cats

I've found that goth culture, or, at least, traditional/mature goth culture (what you're referring to is "mall goth") still strongly supports productivity and life fulfillment, just with an offbeat sort of happiness. For example, H.P. Lovecraft' works and the Emily the Strange franchise both have great goth followings, though misery is not the center of any of it. Think passion for oddities rather than depression.
Back to the main topic, labels can sometimes make someone feel more comfortable with themselves. We should be more concerned about what people think makes them emo, such as self harm, rather than with the fact that they label themselves. -
I find whiplash comment very pathetic. I mean isn't 'Emo' another word for 'goth' I believe so. I'm sorry if I am incorrect but til than my statement stands. I will now go Googling for information on how this is true.

Goth is something totally different, its not about depression, cutting, or clothing to much. It's more about finding beauty in darkness and dark literature, H.P Lovecraft is a good example, but a more popular one is Edgar Allen Poe.I mean those kids who hang out around Hot Topic with a million piercings wearing BVB shirts are not Goth.Goth is more of a mindset really. Some good Goth bands are Christian Death, The Cure, Bauhaus,Siouxie And The Banshees ect...and no Marilyn Manson is NOT Goth.
Emos, well...it's more of a teenager thing.I can't really comment to much on them because my only knowledge on them is what I see at Hot Topic.Bunch of kids obsessing over s---ty bands complaining about first world problems, but hey the look like they're having fun.
I personally don't label myself anymore, I used to but I felt like I was limiting myself on what I could like.
Out of curiosity may I ask what brought up this sudden rant? -
I made some typos, I know but I'm too lazy to correct XD sorry.
