Thread Topic: Am I the only one that things genderbend is...idk?

So you're basically saying it's bad that people don't think men wear make-up..?
-
Makeup isn't gender neutral, that's where you are wrong. Most girls have llng hair and wear makeup (Like you and most every other girl here) and most boys have short hair and no makeup (most every guy here).
Bother genders can do either, but there isa clear majority. -
Makeup is gender-neutral and society portrays it almost exclusively for females, I'm saying it's a problem that gender-bend contributes to that.
Um excuse me please explain further how makeup isn't gender-neutral ?? -
"There is a clear majority."
-
Gender-bend doesn't always portray things like that. It might "contribute", but you have to remember, these types of things were done for fun. And they're only being slightly stereotypical by showing guys without long hair/make-up. Does it really matter that much?
-
Unloving is a tumbl-tard and tumbl-tards always take everything extremely seriously.
-
It may be not as big of an issue, but it's still an issue ?? Why did I just think of that starfish story @_@
bob you're not even giving a valid argument here. You're blaming my opinion on the fact that I have an account on a certain website ?? Instead of arguing against the opinion ? You're also stereotyping the website .. -
No, the stereotype was already there. I'm just saying that you fit the stereotype. Don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say.
And that was my argument. You take things way too seriously. -
tumblr-tards always take everything extremely seriously
That statement literally had nothing to do with this thread. Nothing to do with gender-bending. Nothing to do with my opinion on the issue.
It doesn't matter if it's a "small issue", it's still an issue that needs to be taken seriously.
I don't care if people who use "gay" as an insult don't affect much, that's still an issue that leads to homophobia (leads to a bigger issue)
This "small issue" happens to lead to sexism and gender rolls and it's still an issue that needs to be addressed.
It does not matter if it's "small", it's still IMPORTANT and regardless of that, it still does not make it fair.
In fact, the other day my mom called something "retarded" and when I tried to tell her to knock it the f--- off, she said "it's not that big of a deal, it's just an expression". It still discriminates against mental illness and is ableist as f---. It may not affect much to call something "retarded" or "gay" but it leads to bigger issues and is part of what creates those issues. (homophobia and ableism)
What I'm saying here is that gender-bend is part of the gender roles problem.
Now, in the first post I asked for opinions on this issue. "tumblr-tards always take everything extremely seriously" literally has nothing to do with the issue this thread is discussing. You're probably going to reply to this with "well you only think that because you're a Tumblr user." I would actually like to hear your opinion on the issue. -
Unloving, one thing I learned on tumblr is that you can't take it very seriously when it comes to social justice. It's considered the Westboro of social justice in actual social justice classes. A lot of the stuff that goes around isn't actually legit, and sends the actual movements backwards rather than forwards (ie the trans community is very very iffy about the tumblr trans activists because they speak over them very very often and make us look very very bad)
trying to tackle small issues one by one is not the way to go about it. this way you'll be working forever and nothing will have changed. YOu should tackle the root of the problem rather than a small micro-section of it.
like the others said, it's a clear majority thing. It's not to say that the other can't have the other, it just influences what the artists' choose to do. IT also depends on whether or not the artist is a good one, if you just slap makeup and long hair on a male character and call it a genderbend without taking into idea what the actual character would do as the opposite, then it's a very very very bad genderbend.
Also, please don't hit me but genderbending is less harmful to society than tumblr activism. Tumblr activism makes people NOT want to take stuff seriously and listen because they're pushy and make issues where there isn't any.
I think we should stop this before this gets any worse. It's clear that this discussion will only go downhill from here. You've already said what you need to say and you're only repeating arguments at this point, not to mention everyone else is starting to get unnecessarily hostile. =.= -
Okay but...not all Tumblr users are like that o.o Many of them have made a bad name for the site but it's not like the entire website acts the way said users do ??
And if the smaller issues are excused, they only build up into bigger issues. -
"Not all tumblr users"
I am a tumblr user. I am well aware of what goes on, on tumblr, and a vast majority of tumblr is like this.
I'm not saying they're excused, I'm saying they shouldn't be the main focus. The main focus should be on breaking down the actual problem that causes these mini ones. It's less work, and more productive. -
Yes but not everyone on Tumblr ??
Okay well I think this is a good topic to cover for now ? -
I never said everyone. Maybe someone else in this thread did tho e.e
This topic is gaining hostility and should stop if we want to avoid drama o.o
The thing that puzzles me about this topic is that i've never met a single trans person who had an issue with genderbending, it's mostly tumblr having an issue with it. -
"tumblr-tards always take everything extremely seriously"
Idk I said something about the fact that he was trying to speak for all Tumblr users? I don't even know right now I'm tired
I'd rather work out the issue then just avoid it to avoid "drama".
