But when you say "according to Tumblr", you make it sound like all Tumblr users.
Which makes me think of #NotAllMen and how some people say something like "well it's a large enough percentage to be significant", which I totally agree with #notallmen so when people say "well enough of them are like that" I disagree. The same thing with what you're saying, that enough Tumblr users have that opinion, so Tumblr can be spoken for as a whole like that, meanwhile if someone said all men do this or something everyone would freak the f--- out. I just wanted to point this out, don't even reply to this. XD -

I think it is somewhat natural to have a kind of visceral reaction and be a little weird-ed out by it. We've been told to internalize preconceived acceptable masculine and feminine values so much that your reaction is going to be one of confusion. That was certainly my initial reaction when I first witnessing gender-bending. But on a rational level I'm okay with it. I think rigid stereotypes of what is masculine and what is feminine have been very harmful to our society, so it is refreshing when someone has the balls to defy expectations. Transsexual is another thing entirely, there is a biological component to that.

whilst I do agree that calling it 'gender-bending' can be considered problematic, 'on a rational level' I as well as my roommate have no problem, and this is speaking as a nonbinary/genderfluid individual, and a transgender person (my roommate is trans).
IT's silly to be taking everything so seriously, and we should just live and let live. Some things are an issue, but we shouldn't make everything into a political agenda.
The notion of genderbending is considered problematic, but it's also a creative tool. I myself find it incredibly fun to do this to my characters and so forth. In short, I think we should calm the heck down about this. -

I agree that it's fun to change (or as Sel said "redesign", I like that term) characters, to make them more masculine or feminine, but I do think the issue needs to be addressed because of the gender roles idea ?? As I said, the thing with makeup and hair, makeup is seen as something only for females as opposed to gender-neutral, and I still think gender-bending is part of the problem with that.

This thread is complete and utter bulls---, going against genderbend is more transphobic when supporting it. Your saying characters should only be expressed with their current gender. -
Nooo as I said, it's fine to 'redesign' a character but the female-male conversion usually, like I said, consists of the character losing it's long hair and makeup, or vice versa would gain such things that society places as a expectation for females, when both are gender-neutral.
