Thread Topic: I hate the term "pro-life"

First of all, I strongly believe that 90% of people who oppose abortion, or "pro-life" as they ridiculously call themselves, are among the dumbest people on Earth. I give passes to certain people, but overall the pro-life movement is full of drooling neanderthalic morons. Here's all you really need to know to determine if a fetus is a person or not: a baby cannot live outside the womb until the mother's third trimester (6 months), and even then it will need to live in an incubator if it is born more than a few weeks premature in some cases. Until a baby takes a breath outside of the womb, it cannot be considered a person. Also consider that pro-lifers are essentially more concerned with the fate of a 64-cell zygote than they are the mother, a living, breathing, legally recognized human being. 14-year-old girls get pregnant. Do you really want to make a 14-year-old have a child she can't possibly be ready to have?
On a related topic, I have a friend who is a staunch libertarian. He favors as little government as possible, which includes the elimination of social programs for the poor, including government-provided health care, and the elimination of public education. He is also staunchly opposed to abortion. This is another problem I have with the label "pro-life", because again, my friend and many others like him have more compassion for an embryo from the minute it is conceived than for an actual human. Basically, they care about the sanctity of the fetus until it is born, most likely into poverty, where in their perfect world that kid would have no access to health care or education, and possibly not even food and shelter. I should probably be calling out my friend on this, but it is better sometimes not to say these things so as not to start an argument. I'll save my anger for when it is truly needed. -
I get what you're saying, and I partially agree. I don't think teens should have kids, it just screws up their lives forever, and it's not good for their heath. But you have to remember, it's not just teens who are ending their pregnessies. There are adults, well I don't want to say killing the kids, because their not alive yet, but you get the idea. I also want to point out that kids can be adopted by loving and willing parents, though it will suck not knowing their biological parents. So I guess I'm kinda pro-life, but I don't believe in shooting any surgens.

I'm with you on this one.

My view: If you want the kid, fine. Let me do what I want to do.

I always have trouble with this topic. It IS alive the minute it's conceived, but still, what if the woman was raped? Then it wasn't her fault she's pregnant. I am "pro-choice" I suppose you would call it, but I don't agree with every hair brained extreme things people say.

dw1996 NewbieLess women would have abortions if schools could actually teach sex ed. I personally have a problem with abortion, but it's not going to stop if we continue to be so rigid as a society. Sex is not an evil thing, as long as you are responsible about it. A lot of people my age aren't because they don't know any better. I have the benefit of having a health teacher for a mother, so I know about protection and disease and stuff. Legally speaking, I guess I'm pro-choice, but the best choice is life, even if you were raped.

Kendall NewbieIt's alive once it is conceived so I don't think you should just kill it. If a fourteen year old girl gets pregnant she can give birth and give the baby up for adoption. At least you're not killing it and someone who isn't able to have children can have your child.
