Thread Topic: Does Obama display socialistic ideas?

The Godfather NewbieI find as time goes on that Obama's politics are getting more and more to the left.
For example, he wants to pass universal health care. He wants to increase the taxes on the rich, to give to the poor. This reminds me of the following quote: "From each according to his ability; to each according to his need." Anybody seeing red here?
He wants to decrease the amount of money going to the military. Whether or not you agree with the war, a person with logic can relate that a strong military is necessary in times like this, where we have problems with North Korea, Iran, and the Taliban.
He wants to extend American rights to non-American citizens. Take a look at Kalid Sheikh Mohammed!
Considering I am running out of space I leave the rest to you fellow citizens to take over.

tongue NewbieI don't see anything wrong with these "socialist" ideas you talk of. I think it's a very good thing to make sure everyone meets a decent standard of living. Our government should be trying to help as many people as it can, poor and middle class. The only people who will feel the pinch of these policies are the rich, and they don't feel the pinch that much. As to whether these are socialist ideas, I'd have to answer no. Socialism is a 100% tax rate on the rich and equal redistribution of wealth. That I am not in favor of.

The Godfather NewbieWell tongue, in your own opinion his Socialist ideas aren't bad, but I think in America, it is against our principles, and quite insulting. As to your statement of the rich not feeling the pinch, I don't think you have the right to say that. The rich don't value money any more than the middle class. If I took 50% of a middle class person's money, it is the same ration as 50% from a wealthy person, and hurts just as much. You should speak for yourself, and not the rich, who clearly work hard for their money, and that is why they are rich.
Next, his ideas are indeed Socialistic. Obama is considered black, even though he is half black; something doesn't have to follow completley to be something. Universal healthcare, and as he said to Joe the Plumber "spreading the wealth" are indeed Socialistic. Take a look at the countries who have or have tried universal health care (all aren;t doing well) and you will see that most besides The UK are Socialist countries.
Please come better educated when you post these comments.
I said I welcome all viewpoints, but that doesn't mean come hear with your politics you get from biased informtion such as NBC, or your colleagues/parents. -

Here are my opinions.
Capitalism is stupid. We would have a lot more time on our hands if we didn't work every minute just to gain 5 dollars.
And on the thing about the military...how about this, we destroy time-wasting capitalism, and train all our citizens from the age of 7. Therefore we'd be prepared.
Give us all equality, take the focus away from money. Then we could have unity as a nation.

Next, without capitalisim, we'd be a smaller Russia. Capitalisim makes you and I money.
Furthermore, what equality do you want? This is America: good luck finding more. If you think we are not all equal, please give me an example. Sure there are racist things done, but this happens to everybody. It's life.
If we take focus away from money, how will you eat, buy close and entertainment, how will you post these things online!
And I apologize if you consider this bashing, but I call it the truth. The truth may hurt, but it's a good one. -
