Human Impact= Population x Affluence x Technology
Which one is the problem? Me: I thinks population. Maybe more technology may have been produced after World War 2, but does that really have anything to do with the population? Humans do that themselves. So for me, the equation is Human Impact= Population xAffluence x Technology. With popluation growth, we've had to use more land, mine for more and use more unrenewable resources than ever before. We'll cut down forests, drain seas, melt the polar ice caps, to get what we need to help our 7 billion and counting world.
We're digging outselves a whole.
The Earth will all be one big China:Polluted, over-crowded, on the verge of disaster.
Population is the the problem.
What's the solution?
Well. I think maybe our Earth really should be China: A one child policy.
I understand this will enrage parents to the point of rebellion, but what else can we do? The most humane way is to create a limit. But what scientists care about is trying to satisfy our growing population when we should be RESTRAINING it. We'd have so much off our shoulders if we didn't have 7 billion people competing for space, food, and shelter -
I'd think that'd be a good idea, but I remember that if you had second Child in China, you'd have to kill it.
-
People do it everyday: Abortion. :I
-
Not just abortion damnit.
If they have the child, they'd have to kill it.
in that case, abortion would have been more humane than to cause pain to one that could actually feel it, I don't even view abortion as murder. -
I guess thats true. I've never seen abortion as a bad thing, but I've never seen it as good either.
But this is exactly the obstacle parents see everyday. They want another kid, so they have it. Thats no ones fault but there, even if it is an accident. So they have it, and they must kill it, but they simply do. not. want to. Really, the One Child Policy is exactly that. Nobody would want to, but they have to, just for the sake to lower the population. Who would want to kill their child? it's just about having to -
I think we just need people to practice safe sex and stop getting pregnant at 16...
and maybe a nuclear bomb.. -
Or society to stop exploiting sex as an amazing, do it and your in, type of thing.
and a nuclear bomb would help xD -
tongue AdvancedI'd like to see better access to contraception in Third World countries. Most population growth is occuring in countries that aren't industrialized. Carbon footprint really does have more to do with affluence and technology if you ask me. The technology is something that can be changed in the developed world, i.e. cleaner fuels, more efficient modes of transportation, less reliance on heavy industry. Changes in technology can cut our carbon footprint signifigantly, even in affluent, developed nations.
-
Yes, but we need more technology/ industries for the growing population. We wouldn't need to be making thousands of nuclear power plants for energy if there werent 7 billion people relying on it.
And it is true that most third world countries are the cause of population growth, but sad enough as it is, most of them will die before the reach 30's-40's. -
Gtg, if anyone cares xD I just didn't want to randomly leave...Bye-bye!
-
If that happened all over the world the earth would become like the Among the ..... .It's a series of books.
-
Among The Hidden! :D I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!!!
But really it would be for the best. Would you want humanity to over-populate, but then end up destroying their only home? (as of right now) -
I like that idea :)
-
I prefer the idea of conquering alien planets.
