If you look up “no period talk in school law” and you click on the first link under the “people also ask” section it should be titled “What bill banned girls from discussing their periods?” and there should be a link it should take you to “usatoday.com” I hope that helps
-
I looked into it and it seems like the law wasn't made to ban period talk, but that period talk happened to fall under the broad range of things they were planning to ban. I think it's still under the works so hopefully they make some amendments bc it'd be ridiculous to ban little girls from talking abt their periods
-
I am fully against any censorship bills. I don't think we should be making ANY laws that criminalize speech.
Florida also introduced, passed, & proposed bills this year that will...
-criminalize the filming of cops & police action
-require bloggers who wrote about the governor to register with the state
-allow trans children to be removed from the homes of supportive parents
-ban the use of preferred pronouns and names in schooled
-ban diversity and inclusion programs on campus
-legalize the kidnapping of trans kids
-make it a felony to have an illegal immigrant in your car, regardless of your knowledge of their immigration status
-limit the THC and hemp industries in a way that would virtually destroy them
- legalize carrying concealed weapons without a permit
-7 year charge for trans adults using their preferred bathroom
- ban dogs from sticking their head out of car windows
So anyways, yes the legislators in Florida ARE fascist. These are authoritarian policies and it disturbs me to see the same people who called themselves constitutionalists during the pandemic support these policies with open arms. -
I have sources for all of these of course. I'm happy to provide them if you wanna see any of them ♥

@BoldNotCold - You're good, I found what you were trying to link :)
@Spice - Yeah, that's what it looks like, from what I have read.
This is the one I read first:
-
Little children need to understand their anatomy in adult ways. They need to know that they have genitals, what the names of those genitals are and that their genitals can bleed, use the bathroom and function. This helps them understand what is normal about their bodies, what is private about their bodies and what is not okay to be done to their bodies. Banning period talk doesn’t just eliminate little girls being able to understand their bodies or know when something is wrong and go to somebody when they start to bleed- but it opens opportunities to be preyed upon by adults as well. It leaves girls to become ashamed and confused by their bodies, to feel like bleeding is wrong and not okay and that if it’s spoken about - you should be seen as inappropriate to talk about what is, a basic human function. No different than a snotty nose, a need to use the bathroom, an upset stomach or headache. It’s a function that simply happens
-
Yes! Exactly! Little girls may mistake their first period (menarche) as them dying (like my mother did) and when they mistake their period as them dying it is likely for them to freak out and be like “holy crap im dying! how did this happen? how are my parents going to react? What am I supposed to do?” Only for them to look back and think “wow how was I that stupid” and the answer is: you’re not! You were just not provided with the necessary information about your body and in that situation you didn’t know what to do because no one has told you that it’s normal even though it sucks it’s still normal. I feel we need to regulate periods and menstruation in our society and to provide women the necessary information that they need to help their bodies thrive and to help them not make mistakes like putting a pad on wrong or not even putting a pad on because they are to afraid to ask for help. This needs to stop and we need to help regulate periods in schools and society. Our bodies. Our rights. We have rights to education about our own bodies and natural bodily functions and changes that our bodies go through as we enter puberty and we end puberty. We need to take a stand to protect ourselves and others from these stupid laws that restrict us from talking about something that happens to all women.

^ yes to both of you. One other thing to mention without (hopefully) being too explicit is that if you do teach children at younger ages it helps catch innapropriate situations they might be in and help them get out of them. If your 7 year old student raises their hand and says "teacher! I started my period" that can open up the doors to investigate potential health concerns or abuse cases the child might not be aware of.
My fiance and I grew up on complete opposite ends of the spectrum as far as our upbringings went. Coming together now and sharing our experiences, we both agree that comprehensive sexual education and being able to have safe third parties to discuss home life concerns is absolutely crucial to children.
Reminder that abusers are far more likely to be someone you know and not strangers. Random queer people are far less likely to traumatize or indoctrinate your child compared to your immediate family and acquaintances. -
I agree with you guys 100% we should stop acting like these things are shameful! Periods are a natural part of life and I had a lot of questions that I felt too embarrassed to ask anybody. Also kids should not refer to private places as some vague thing that's entirely unrelated (ex: cookie) because that opens doors for predators. There's a lot of stigma around these things and it's not going away overnight, but I hope one day these things can be talked about openly
-
I get that maybe not all people are comfortable talking about their period. But we should at least give them the option to talk about something like this openly I encourage all of you to be open about your period and everything that people tell you not to be open about because it’s gross. Tell your friends that you are on your period. Don’t be embarrassed if someone says “are you on your period?” Reply with “yeah and I’m proud of it.” Be happy that you can live in a time that we can bring change to the world. Don’t treat periods as a gross thing we don’t say giving birth is gross we say it’s the most beautiful thing. Why are periods taboo? Ponder that.
-
I have a question: Who would be punished if a child were to talk about their period? And what would said punishment be?
-
Most likely for the schools would be a major fine by the state or something along those lines I feel like for children it would go on their criminal records or something I’m not sure I tried looking it up but it just said “what does Jesus say about menstruation” 🙄

I'm just scrolling through all the messages of every girl or people who just understand periods. The laws are absolutely stupid- If a child who isn't the age legal to talk about it starts their period what are they going to do about it? Like @BoldNotCold said- they could think that their dying, they could feel scared worried or be ashamed or embarrassed. In schools around my area we are taught about Periods in year 5 and year 6 and in further details in upper years. I still think this should be talked about earlier though incase children and parents or foster parents aren't comfortable sharing that kind of information. I wish I could change a lot of America's laws and change some horrible and stupid people's minds about this kind of topic and other unfair and terrible laws such as Americans have to pay for health treatment- how many people die because of that? It's terrible, I'm glad England's NHS is free because, yeah.

That was long, sorry oof

this isn't real. it's probably something that someone put up on the internet to stop more people from moving into florida, but it isn't real. i have a lot of family members who live there and they never say anything about that. i just asked my great aunt who lives there and she said she's never heard of that law. y'all can go ahead and believe it, but no one is getting punished for saying period. unless it's something that a specific school is doing, this is FAKE NEWS.
