Thread Topic: Woo! Another war in the Middle East for us!

As most of you have heard America is now involved in the civil war in Libya. This is now our third war in the Middle East in the last 10 years. Just how much longer does our government think we can keep up with this?

tongue ExperiencedThis really isn't a war, not yet at least. This is kind of what Clinton did with Sadam Hussein and Iraq where he had the US bombing Iraq weekly. Of course we did eventually go to war in Iraq, so war in Libya unfortunately isn't out of the question.
The only reason we have to be involved in Libya is oil. The US can't go to war just to protect it's supply of oil, which convieniently enough comes from a volatile part of the world. Because I hate war, I say the US needs to work tirelessly on enerrgy independence from the Middle East. You wanna drill offshore? You wanna drill in Yellowstone and ANWR? Fine. Just don't let oil companies cause BP style disasters. Anything to keep us out of the Middle East and out of war. -
I agree with tongue, we have natural gas and oil in our own land, and as long as it's done safely we can be energy independent. It's bollocks to fight over there for oil, and shouldn't it be about supporting getting dictators out and letting the people have freedom? Isn't it funny that America spreads democracy in places that don't care, but when places where people are actually fighting for it all we can think about is oil? -_-

tongue ExperiencedLong term I would prefer we use renewable resources such as solar or wind power, but it's gonna be awhile before we can develop enough of it. Until then we need to take whatever measures possible to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. As for Libya, yeah Gadhafi's a tyrant, and I suppose that's the reason we're aiding the rebels, but if Libya didn't have oil we wouldn't give a s---. 400,000 people were killed in the genocide in Darfur but we didn't send our militaries there, just our celebrities, and it's because the Sudan has no strategic or economic importance to us. This is the reality of foreign policy, and I honestly think it's a load of horses---.

You make my fellow Arab countries seem like such sh1t holes~!
And most oil comes from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (where I live yay) anyways. C: -
tongue ExperiencedNo alot of it comes from Libya too.

tongue ExperiencedWhat's really interesting is that there's an entire province of Libya fighting against Gadafi where radical Islam and jihad are prevalent. So really there isn't a good end result in Libya.
