Thread Topic: Which is worse: air pollution or water pollution?
-
I am supposed to write a persuasive essay on which one of these types of pollutions is worse. I was thinking a debate might help me with my decision.
However, my current belief is that air pollution is worse. Why? I'll tell you soon, I'm in school and can't post much for now. I also want to see what you guys think before I pitch in my own ideas.
So, which is worse? -
What I mean by that is, which form of pollution has more of a negative affect on society?
-
Factory dumping into local rivers is pretty bad
-
I don't know, air pollution is bad because we need air to breathe and live and it gets into you but I think water pollution is worse because it effects everything living in the ocean and can wreck the food chain if species die out.
Also I'd say water pollution is currently more of a concern than air pollution but I don't know much about it. -
I've gained some resources and took notes, I think I could share my thoughts with you tomorrow. But my belief remains the same.
-
I think water pollution is worse. Because I love water! Just kidding.
If the air is contaminated, sometimes we can use protection, like mask?
But if the water is conta uh... Conta what? Oh right! Contaminated, we will hardly can pure it again. Without water, there'll be no life. All of the living creature slowly but surely will be dead. -
Are you familiar with the term bs?
Its a bulls--- question. Theyre both bad. Just chose one and run with it -

I agree with Slim, both water pollution and air pollution are equally damaging, the air affecting a gigantuan range of species and the water affecting no less. The total spoiling of either would result in the mass extinction of all but the hardiest and most immuno-efficient of species.
Chances are, your teacher would praise you for your clever deviation (if however so slight). Or maybe they'd be narrow-sighted and say "your'e atta bounds lel". -
In extreme situations both are bad.
Too much carbon in air and we get runaway greenhouse affect.
However algae does most of the photosynthesis on the earth so if water pollution kills off all the algae we have same problem as the first.
Both are s---ty. -
I would go with air pollution because of carbon emissions and climate change.
-
Isn't air pollution more fixable though? If emissions stopped and more trees planted then it would go back to normal? The ocean would be ruined forever as there's be no way to fix it and all the species inside.
-
That would be like saying to my teacher, who is grading me on this essay, "Oh, they're both bad, what a bad question!", Slim. I have to do this because tbh I don't want a bad grade. She's telling me that I have to choose one and that she already knows both are bad.
As for my reasoning? Gimme a moment, I did forget to take my articles home with me today but I'll run on memory. -
This is gonna be a little short and sweet, but I'll revamp once I get the sources.
First of all, I say that air pollution is worse because I've noticed that some forms of water pollution come from air pollution itself, like acid rain. When factories burn stuff, not only goes that gas go up into the atmosphere, but it can't escape because the earth is a closed system. That then mixes in with the rain during rainfall, making the rain acidic and that rain is falling into bodies of water because of the original air pollution.
There's also the health problems that it can cause. Kids with asthma usually were born near or lived in an area that was full of air pollution. Air pollution can provoke asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes, coughing/wheezing, and many other circulatory and respiratory problems. In some cases, even premature death. An estimated amount of 4.6 million people die worldwide because of air pollution alone each year.
And I can remember.. I only heard of cholera and tuberculosis coming from water, according to my sources, but I could be wrong. 3-5 million people die each year because of both of those illnesses combined. In some cases, air pollution causes more deaths because, well, 4.6 is bigger than 3, right? You know, the minimum.
I can agree that both are equally bad, but when it comes to this essay when I can't be wishy-washy, I'm gonna have to say air pollution is worse. -
Great, narrow-minded teachers saying "blood or bold red for paint".
Blegh, I should go.
