WRITTEN BY A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE.
PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
.............................
Found this on FB, and personally, I find it to be a highly uneducated opinion. I would almost be offended if it wasn't so stupid.
But what do you guys think -
Is this a shot at those on government assistance? Because if it is, it's bad.
-
Sick that they think that they shouldn't even VOTE
-
yeah. Whoever wrote that OBVIOUSLY doesn't have a job herself.
-
I'll make a bet that all of you are to deathbed democrats.
-
Even this is too extreme. I do think that people shouldn't be allowed to by cigs and alcohol with government aid, and that the people should at least be trying to make a living for themselves rather than just waiting for their check to come in

@geek, as a matter of fact, I lean towards republican policies.
In many respects I agree that wellfare is poorly handled, but the issue I take with this sentiment is that it's an unconstitutional approach the problem of poverty and freeloaders.
If you want to handle the problems: sure go ahead, but if you want caste systems and goverment control of reproductive rights, go to south africa. -
I actually did not understand the terminology in the part about birth control honestly.
But the rest I see nothing wrong with, that's how people lived for many years so people can survive with it now. -
which people? Americans who have not excerscised their right to vote? or people who belonged and\or belong to nations with less civil liberty then America provides?
If you mean the latter, then you're saying not voting is equivlant of being a prisoner, which I suppose is an excellent metaphor in context of some abstract ideas of freedom, but the truth is, the American people lack the education to effect a worthwhile or meaningful vote. In reality their lost votes would be controlled by advertising expertise anyway, and the electoral vote over powers all but the most unanimous masses. Freedoms not really served either way. The fault lies not in the welfare system, but in the democratic flaw.
If you're speaking of nations aside from America then as previously mentioned, that's simply not the way American goverment is intended to function. If people lived or didn't live in circumstances contrary to what you'll find here is irrelevant, as in THIS country, we are guided by democractic and capitalist philosophy. -
I agree with the first point about food stamps, but other than that it is pretty damn retarded.

I think the most harsh thing here is the requirement for birth control and tubal litigation. That should only ever be a personal choice and no government should force such a thing on someone.
That being said, I think there needs to be something done about the current welfare system. It should only be a means to help someone along, not support their whole lifestyles. There are many out there that exploit it and take away from those who actually need it, like those trying to feed their families and put a roof over their heads. We should encourage those on the welfare system to find a steady job, but not cut off until they can make it without help. Simply fill the basics needs that keep them alive.
I don't believe the government should have a large role in people's lives, but I also think we need to have a basic way of helping those who are trying to succeed. If all they want to do is lie around all day and get free money from those who work, then I would kindly tell them to bug off. -
Personally I think that if the government wants people off welfare, they need to raise the minimum wage so that there is an incentive to get off welfare. The jobs available to most people on welfare don't pay much. Getting rid of social programs is not an option, unless you want a giant segment of the population to live in absolute squalor.

Actually now that I think about it, I might actually know the 21-year-old female who wrote this.
-
who's that?

Some girl I went to high school with. Actually it could be one of two girls. Both are ridiculously conservative. I think I lived in the one conservative town in all of New York.
