I honestly don't think so. I mean, sure, you can take away the gun, but you can't take away the want to kill. There are plenty of others ways to kill someone (stabbing, strangulation, drowning, poisoning, etc). I could stab someone with a knife right now, but I'm not, just like how I could shoot someone with my gun right now, but I'm not. Yes, people are murdering other people with guns, and taking away guns would stop gun related violence, but it wouldn't stop all violence, nor will it prevent the people who would previously had guns from causing damage. If someone wants to kill, they're going to do it with or without a gun. Remember, it's not the gun that kills, but the man behind the gun.
I do believe, however, that there should be some form of moderation of guns (not necessarily gun control). The government should be able to keep tabs on where every gun in America is, that way if a gun related event happens (say M16 related) the FBI would be able to see everyone that owns a M16 and what stores sell them. If someone stole a gun, they would be able to track who has the gun much easier through questioning the person who's gun was stolen or viewing a security tape at the store the gun was stolen from. -
Forget the word "would" before "previously."

I've said it before, I'll say it again: guns are designed to kill, and they designed to kill fast and in large numbers. Do you really want that gun in the hands of a convict or someone who is mentally unstable? Yes, some people will absolutely go out of their way to get guns, or find another way to kill. But a lot of those people won't. And any other weapon they could use is likely to inflict far less damage than a gun. If you try to stab someone, they can fight back. That isn't the case with a gun. I think it makes sense to keep guns away from certain people. I think it makes sense that the people who do have guns go through extensive training so they know how to use them correctly. And I absolutely think that assault weapons and high capacity magazines should be banned outright. This country needs gun control. Period.

Look at Australia. There, armed robbery rates have only gone up since they passed their gun controls laws. The main reason: criminals are pretty much guaranteed that their victims will be unarmed. Criminals are criminals because they break the law and commit crime. They'd be breaking the law anyway, so why does this make a difference? Gun control might make it harder for them to access the guns, but they will get them. They will still commit crime. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if armed robbery went up in America after gun control laws are passed.

I would have agreed with you, but I just saw something that made me rethink it. The logic is, "We should have no gun laws because criminals will still be criminals," but the point of the laws is to make is harder (weed out the less hardcore killers) and make these things punishable. With that logic, we should get rid of all laws.
I believe the regulations are fine the way they are, but people should be more prepared to deal with things like these. Don't totally ban guns, but be more responsible with them. -
Yeah. Like tongue said, there should be a training people have to take before owning a gun. I do agree that some guns should be illegal, but not all guns. Families still need to protect themselves because some criminals will find ways to access guns of every kind no matter what laws are in place.

I do just wanna clarify that when people talk about "gun control", they mean restrictions, not an outright ban. Washington DC and Chicago had bans for roughly thirty years before the Supreme Court struck them down. So it has basically been decided that a total ban of guns could never happen in this country. Chicago is also sometimes called out as an example of a gun ban failing, though I disagree with that assertion for several reasons. Truth is, I would support an outright ban of all guns, but ultimately I think it is better to institute safety measures and allow the people who can handle their guns to keep them. I don't see it being any less effective than a ban, and guns are a big part of our culture as well, and ultimately there needs to be some accomodation for that.

Only automatic weapons should be banned concealed weapons should need a permit end of story blame obama.
-
I can see where you may want to carry a concealed weapon. As long as everyone has to go through extensive training for a permit, might as well. Just none of that "stand your ground" bulls---.

You know, now that I think about it, I wonder if it could create more jobs. I mean, there would have to new jobs for people who train others how to use the guns. That could be a solid way to give veterans jobs.
-
And phones I, a daughter of a Desert Storm veteran, can't afford because both my parents are teachers, and teachers don't make jacks---. I mean, if you're going to go on welfare don't buy iPhones and pop out another kid every year. Actually use the money to help yourself go to school so you can get a job and take care of yourself and your family. It f---ing pisses me off because the people who really need it are getting screwed over. And veterans do need to receive money, especially those who were hurt. Do you realize how hard it is for injured veterans to get a job?
That's another place the country's money should go. Teachers should get more money. People don't realize how much of an impact teachers make on society and how little they get paid for it. Without teachers, all other professions would be impossible. -
^Emma took the words out of my brain.
I think that good teachers should get paid well, while the sucky ones should get fired all together.
Our education system is broken, anyway. We force students to sit through a bunch of things they won't need for their area of interests, put on Bill Nye the Science guy in 10th grade Biology classes (I'm witness to this, and not to knock Bill but I would expect more from a high school class), but most of all, the focal point of the curriculum is to get ready for standardized testing. It's atrocious.
What we need to do is focus on the individual student, giving them the education they need to do their best in what they are good at. More students would be interested in their work, and drop out rates would lower. Learning should be about your growth, and setting a reasonable pace, actually learning the material versus repeating it back through multiple choice questions.

Nevada teachers may, but I can guarantee you Louisiana teachers don't. My family can barely live off my parents' salaries. We couldn't even afford to give me a sweet sixteen and we can't afford to go to the doctors' offices right now. I have some weird growths on my skin that need to be checked out, but we can't afford it, and that's along with the cyst in my knee and the eye doctor that I'm due to go to soon for my annual appointment. Also, my mom has esophagus problems that we can't afford to get fixed and my dad has back problems we can't afford to get fixed. None of these are covered by our health insurance, which is the best insurance we can afford. If I didn't have scholarships that cut my tuition in half both my brother and I wouldn't be able to go to private school, which here is a lot better than the public schools. The public schools are all about the standardized tests while the private schools focus on preparation for the real world first and the testing second.
-
That's what pisses me off about schools.
Its all about "standardized" testing. But you know what? WE'RE NOT STANDARDIZED!
How do we even know what "standardized" is?! Everybody has different standards.
For example, the other day. I was taking a science and I found out to be the only one in my class that passed. That was a standard test for me. Obviously it was harder for the other kids in my class, because their standards are different. -
Teaching to the test is bulls---. The best thing schools can do is actually trust teachers to do their jobs instead of tying their hands. And if they aren't doing their jobs, then fire their asses.
How did this even turn into a convo about education anyway?
