I punch my father in the stomach and try to get away, but he grabs my foot. I kick him in the nose and he let's go screaming. The headmaster has got up and I run.

When he runs past, I follow right behind Jerry.

I see her and grab her hand again.

He grabs my hand, and I manage to catch up so I'm right next to him. The headmaster is running behind us, but I don't think she'll be able to catch up.

We'll miss that tent, but it's better than getting caught.

I hear the headmaster huffing as she tried to catch up, but she couldn't, so she leaned forward and rested her hands on her knees.

I didn't slow, I couldn't let her get hurt.

"Go to the left!" I whisper, and pull him in that direction, toward a road.

I let her guide me.

I quickly stop at the edge to make sure there aren't any cars coming, then dash across the road still holding his hand.

I push down the excitement in my chest at her touch and keep running.

"My old friend Nate told me about this place that takes in runaways. It's downtown." I run down a side alley, which opens onto another big street.

I nodd and keep running. "Sounds good."
