I landed the plane near the outside walls of Munich, right around where there was temporary fragile peace.

"Wow. It's awfully quiet here," I whispered to myself. It seemed as though this place was, dare I say it, in a time of peace. -
"Berlin is in total war, so Munich is quiet."

"The recruiting station is a few miles from here."

I cringed at the thought of having to walk so far, especially in this state of health. "Okay. I think I can manage that."
