I ordered a few things and a smoothie I thought we could share. I handed the cashier the money.

He was going to pay, but not anymore. Oh well.

I chose a booth we could sit in.

He sat down across from her.

I laid my hands on the table and reached out my hands for his. "You doin' good?"

He smiled, giving her hands a tight squeeze. "Great." He wondered what they'd do once they got to the town in Maine she'd mentioned.

"Good. I hope another one of those run-ins happen again." I was paralyzed the whole time that cop was questioning us.

He heard the number for their food called. "Be right back." He stood up, going to get the tray.

I sat back, smiling. I took a sneaky peak at his retreating rear.

He came back a moment later with the food.

"Hey," I smiled. I took my food and set it in front of me.

He slid the tray to the end of the table and took his food off of it.

I took the smoothie and put two straws in it. "We can share this, if you want."

"Sure." He took a sip.

I smiled and took a drink as well. I started eating my fries.
