I heard footsteps but ignored them. I was a little too focused on Eric to care.

Eric didn't even hear the footsteps. He was focused on Ashley.

I stopped when someone tapped me on the shoulder. Turning my head, I saw it was Joyce. "Whatcha doing?"she said.

Well, that was odd. At least it wasn't Jacob or Sara.
