I stepped out of the den and heard the grass crunch underneath my feet. I sniffed the air. The sun was probably about a fifth of the way across the sky. -
My left ear twitche as I lay, wrapped in on myself, in the faint hint of snow. It was starting to fall, the first glimpse of white emerged last night.
Something was on the move. Something small. Maybe a hare, but whatever it was would be my lunch in a matter of minutes. -
I started walking, making sure the scents were safe the whole way. There was another fox den I somewhere. I went there everyday to watch some pups while their mother went to hunt and such.

I sniffed the cool autumn air. Yes, fox. Not for lunch, but maybe up for a good brawl.
Hopefully, it wasn't here to hurt my nieces or nefews. My sister had pups a month ago, she moved into my den to avoid a wildfire that had been spreading in the east of the tundra.
I got up, began to walk. Silently, like a hunter. A predator. -
I reached the den. "Hello?" I pricked my ears. She came out.
"Thanks again!" She ran off and I went inside, tackled by the pups. -
"Hmm. Must be the pup watcher again."
I walked towards the den, watching the pups as the tackled and wrestled the fox.
"Back again, I see?"
