"It's about letting someone you love go. To be free and independent away from your influence."
-
literally was the end of an era
-
like i grew up with them
-
when i left the theater i was almost angry because i refused to acknowledge that it was over
-
but i do have to note that the dragons leaving weren't totally necessary, but then it kind of clicks a little when you realize that it doesnt actually take place in another universe, it takes place in this one
-
honestly it's just about growing apart, but people are annoyed because the theme of the trilogy was about defying nature's laws that dragons and people could ever co-exist.
i guess you can see it two ways, because they could either meet each other, go on adventures and fight bad guys, and then depart; or continue to fight bad guys and stay together the entire time.
and the two first movies' central theme is about going against nature's laws that the two can't get along, but the third movie is about how (quote)
"Hiccup and Toothless both expanded each other’s horizons, but they also held each other back. Hiccup was so engrossed in saving dragons he forgot he was a leader to humans, and Toothless relied on Hiccup so much that he forgot his role as king of dragons. It is when they both left go of each other that they fulfilled each other’s destinies."
like it's the truth. they learned from each other and shared something special, but it couldn't stay that way forever. and even though it realistically could, toothless and hiccup could continue to go on their adventures together, they wouldn't experience the same growth as if they had finally let the other go. -
and the lightfury is made to be so unlikable. she's such a cute character but ultimately led to the separation of toothless and hiccup, which feels out of character, because why would toothless ditch hiccup just because he's got one hoe.
and i also have mixed feelings:
1. if the dragons had stayed, it would show how people continue to defy nature.
2. if the dragons had left (which they did), it would show how ultimately, nature is nature, and even though humans learned from the dragons and the other way around, that both species have to look out for their own. which again, is a very impactful theme because it's sad, but true. -
1. toothless is no longer reliant on hiccup. literally, physically, he can do his own thing. but that could be used to further push the theme of resisting his own nature. it would only strengthen their bond and express how the two are a rare case of two characters denying stereotypes because they love each other.
2. toothless is no longer reliant on hiccup. so now instead of defying his nature, he leans into it more. he wants to leave now, and it almost feels like it makes him selfish, despite all he did for hiccup in the past. it's more animalistic of him, to do what he needs to do to survive, disregarding hiccup entirely.
so in 1, they deny their nature. in 2, they embrace it.
and both are valid, except the first one goes to show a more positive side of humanity (going against stereotypes and expectations, all for someone you love), the second is a lot more morbid (all creatures will eventually return to their primal instincts: to survive). so basically, one's not realistic and the other is the truth.
so i could argue for both sides, personally, i like the first more. i dont think the world needs more sadness, but it was still a beautiful ending despite everything. a nice conclusion because it sadly wrapped up the entire franchise and basically said "hey, we're not making any more httyd stuff anymore." -
the second point is like Lord of the Flies. Extremely morbid, yet something that could totally happen. When all restrictions are taken away from someone, they resort back to their primal nature.
-
and the first is looking at it in a more positive way, that we have the power to overcome our nature as humans.

the saddest thing ever is that some elderly dogs and cats leave their owners' properties and die because they dont want to die in front of their owners
i would just break if my dog left and didnt come home and i knew that i wasnt there in his last moments -
and passing away alone, unable to comfort them is the worst kind of feeling
-
i stalked his tiktok
i promise i dont like him but do u ever get sad when u see people u talked to get into relationships and be like completely in love with them
and theyre like perfect -
still dont like him btw but i dont like how people move on bc why cant i
even if i dont have feelings for people, i cant move on from s--- -
idk what it is
