Samara turned the corner of a busy street, trying to get as far away as possible from her past. Her abusive mother, alcoholic father, she couldn't take it anymore. None of her other family cared so this time she was on her own. -
"Lighten up lil' sis, at least I'm out." Atary said, leaning against the alley wall. "Yes, but if you had just stayed out of trouble you wouldn't have been in jail in the first place." Karry said, hugging herself. "And we would still have a house."

Walking up the avenue through a crowd of people and noises of cars rolling by she felt like she could barely breathe. She needed to get away for a second.

"You didn't have to stick up for me, you could've stayed with mom and dad." Atary looked over at Karry with soft eyes, "It wasn't far of them, you should still be home."

When she found the nearest alleyway Samara moved out of the mass of humans and took a deep breath. City-polluted air filled her lungs, and slightly burned. She looked to the side at the boy and girl that were farther away in the alley.

"No, I made my choice. It wasn't your fault, I stood up for you, and therefore I payed the price." Karry said, sighing and looking away. Her gaze fell upon a girl around their age, older then herself yet younger then Atary. -
