I can't stand it anymore. I gotta have somewhere to keep all the good music corralled in one place, and YouTube playlists aren't cutting it for me.
Feel free to add comments and/or suggestions as you wish. -
~Top of the World - Greek Fire~
{HTTYD music video}
I have been obsessed with this song for over a year now, and it provided the title for my second official thread. It's the perfect workout soundtrack, and filled with so much energy and determination that it's been a favorite for a long time. -
~Battle Scars - Paradise Fears~
{HTTYD music video}
This song had the most indescribable power over me during my dark October/November days last year. It's got a good beat but an even better message to Keep Marching On, which is a reminder I always need. Another all-time favorite for sure. -
~Get Up, Get Up - Zach Berkman~
{HTTYD music video}
This song is less flashy than the other too, but it still has a really great message that has yanked me out of several ruts. It's fun to rock out to while you're dragging two large garbage cans up your 800-foot gravel hill. I'm not gonna run out of steam 'cause a couple of dreams got away. -
~I Lived - OneRepublic~
{HTTYD music video}
I actually bristled at this song at first, but that was before I made it my aim to reach out and try to do new things. This song really encourages the ambition to do everything without holding back, so that you have no regrets at the end of your life. As I'm not naturally experience-oriented, it took me a while to understand that message, but it eventually resonated with me. It's a pretty good song to get inspiration to try new things and keep moving forward. -
~Bet On It - Zac Efron~
{HTTYD music video}
if you haven't noticed, I find most of my favorite songs through HTTYD music videos
In my defense, I had no idea this song was from High School Musical when I first heard it. If I knew that right off the bat, I definitely wouldn't love it as much as I do. This was another song that carried me through my rough October 2018 spell. It provided the determination and inspiration that an emotionally insecure barely-16-year-old kid like me needed at that dark and turbulent period of my life (pfft it was only five months ago and I'm talking about it like it was five years ago, yeesh). It may not mean much to the rest of you, but this song is pretty powerful for me. -
~Raging Fire - Phillip Phillips~
{HTTYD music video}
This song actually doesn't mean much to me personally, but my emotional connection to the music video is why I love it. The original version was taken off YouTube for copyright reasons, but the creator eventually re-uploaded it with a few tweaks, which made me very happy :) -
~In My Eyes - The Afters~
{HTTYD music video}
This song is special to me because it was the first HTTYD music video that I ever watched, back in 2016. It's so beautiful that it made me cry (a rare feat) the first time I saw it, and it's continued to impact me ever since. I don't much anymore, but I had chronic struggles with depression for all of last year, and watching this music video always helped me to perk up and shut out that voice in my head that kept telling me I didn't matter. -
~Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips~
{HTTYD music video}
~Brave Souls - Cozi Zuehlsdorff~
{HTTYD music video}
~Sad Song - We The Kings~
{HTTYD music video}
I grouped these three together because they're all fairly similar. They all have the same basic "you're my best friend and I'll always be there for you" message. Not like I exactly have any irl friends that would tell me that, but it's still good to at least fantasize that people love me :)
Again, I mostly enjoy these songs for their music videos, not necessarily the songs themselves. Feel free to judge me. -
~Beside You - Marianas Trench~
{HTTYD music video}
~Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne~
{HTTYD music video}
I grouped these two together because they're also somewhat similar. From one friend to another, keep going, keep holding on, don't give up. Again, even though I don't really have friends I'm that close with, these songs still help me to keep going when I've fallen down. -
~Traveling Light - Joel Hanson~
{HTTYD music video}
It just so happens that this song was written the year I was born :)
(which lets you know just how old-fashioned my music tastes are)
I don't really know why I like this song, but it somewhat tells my life story. This sounds more pathetic than anything I've ever said, but HTTYD has really been like a best friend for me. I have no one in my life that is there for me. Everyone either lives too far away, or is too old, or just doesn't care enough to listen to a teenager's irrational woes. This song really parallels the way that HTTYD has come alongside me and lifted me up from the defeat and despair I would constantly feel. You could really say that now I'm traveling light. -
~Are You Ready (On Your Own) - Distant Cousins~
{HTTYD music video}
I first came across this song in the second trailer for HTTYD 3 that came out October 25th last year (the song starts at 1:43 in the trailer) but I never took the time to listen to the full version until around January this year. I absolutely fell in love with it, and I've made it my theme song for 2019. It's my aim to keep on climbing and really get ready to fly on my own. -
~Love Myself - Blake McGrath~
{HTTYD music video}
I haven't invested into this song as much as I should, but it's absolutely beautiful. The message to not listen to the mold that everyone's shaped for you, but instead to break through it and become your own person -- that's a lesson everyone needs to hear. -
~This Is Me - Skye Sweetnam~
{HTTYD music video}
I struggle frequently with insecurity and a severe lack of confidence, so this song helps me to not give a rip about what others think, but to just be me and see what happens. -
~Blank Space -
Taylor Swift~
{HTTYD music video}
I have no idea why I like this song. I'm not really a romantic (other than having a fictional ship as my username...) but for some reason I like it, so I'm just going with it at the moment.
