‘I usually plant flowers whenever I reach a certain stage in my life or get in a relationship. It’s kind of like a coping skill, according to my doctor. That,’ he pointed to the shriveled flowers, ‘was planted by me and my ex. And I haven’t gotten to doing this part,’ he said, gesturing to the empty bed.

Jayden nodded, impressed. "That's really cool." He wanted to be the one that helped him plant the next one. -

Jayd noticed, raising his eyebrows.

Chester glanced at the empty garden bed. He wanted Jayden to help him plant flowers. ‘Come on, I’ll show you the rest of the garden.’

Jayden wanted to help too. Strange. He'd never been interested in gardening... He followed Chester.

Chester walked back through the garden beds. There was one with an assortment of different black flowers.

"What's this one for?" Jayden asked, looking at the flowers.

Chester looked at the flowers. ‘I planted those when my parents died,’ he said, then looked back down. -
Jayd frowned, wrapping him in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry."

Chester froze up for a moment. He put his hand on Jayden’s back and patted it awkward, looking down.
