-
I know! And by the way, i thought it was your turn now :/
-
Oh sorry, I missed it. I don't have time right now, I'll come back later to post!

Alrighty, here we go...
"Well, the Nature people are spread out, in different towns and villages. There's ten in all, and then, in the center of the forest, there's a huge city, where our leader, Harnegas, lives. He controls all of the Nature kingdom. Most of the Nature inhabitants live in the big city, but some if us prefer peace and quiet and broke off to form small villages nearby, where we could still communicate with the main city, but it wouldn't be so crowded." I explain, absentmindedly petting Amberlight. "If you climb to the top of a tree you can kinda see the city." -
I look up. "I'd like to check that out, but i wanted to ask you a question." "How is it to be able to talk with animals?" "When i was smaller, the whole world was air kingdom." But when i learned about nature kingdom, i was so surprised." "I love animals very much, but i never knew that animals were actually so smart." "I wish i could talk to animals like nature people do..."
-
I shrugged. "It's a natural gift, I guess. I talked with animals before I said my first word with actual people. And a big part of talking to animals is body language. They don't have a definitive language like we do. Lots of it is noises, but another huge part is how the move and when. Like, right now,I can tell Amberlight needs to go to the bathroom, without conversing with her, simply because I know her so well, her movements, her facial expressions." Amberlight growled reproachfully at me for revealing that information and trotted off to do her business. I laugh, and turn back towards Avis. "How do you think you'll be able to go back to your home?" I asked.
-
"Hmm..." "Well, my bird should actually react to my whistle, but he won't come." "Or react in any way." "Maybe some of my family and friends will come look for me." "but the way most people get up to the sky to fight in the war, is to use an air balloon." "But you can only use one of those if you have permission from a general or king." "So i think i'm stuck here for now." "Isn't there an inn somewhere around here?"
-
I nod and lead Avis over to the largest building, three stories high with a cellar. We get some strange looks from the few people that aren't hunting. They can tell Avis isn't Nature kingdom. I open the inn door and whisper to Avis, "Stay here. Ill be right back." I slip in and argue with the inn keeper, Melv, about letting Avis stay without paying. When i tell him Avis is Air kingdom, he relents and finally agrees she can stay for 3 nights free. I escape back outside, already feeling claustrophobic in the dim building. "You can stay for 3 nights without pay. I'll figure something out for when those three nights are over. " I explain.
-
"thank you" i say. when i get to my room, i suddenly feel very homesick. i look around and see a paper and an ink pot with quill on the desk. "they must have that here for guests." i say to myself. i sit down and grab the quill. then i start doodling the mountains, and the sky. i open my bag and look what i actually have with me. a comb, paper and a pencil. i look through the window and see a bird. of course it couldn't be my bird, but where on earth could he have gone? it is dusk. still i feel tired, tired of all the events. i lay down, just to relax. but soon, i find myself in a deep sleep.

I watch as Avis enters the inn. I wonder how long she'll be here, then, with a sigh, I turn away. She's nice, but I'm still not sure if I can trust her. I don't trust easily, and I have my reasons. Gazing up, I'm pretty sure I see a silhouette against one of the windows, lit by lanterns. It must be Avis, which hopefully mean the innkeeper gave her no trouble. Sometimes he's not very trustworthy. I turn and walk down the village, hurrying back to to my own little hut. It's tiny, one room. A desk is set up against one wall, and my bed on the other. A wooden basket is at the foot of my bed, where all my clothes are. Amberlight is already here, lying on the bed. I make a playful growl at her and pounce on top of her, grabbing her rough, black fur. She growls back and whacks my head with her tail. I laugh and we tumble off the bed together, growling playfully. When we finally stop tussling, I'm on my back, staring at the ceiling, Amberlight sprawled out beside me, panting. We lay there, silently, lost in out thoughts, for I don't know how long. When, finally, I sit back up, it's dark outside. The hunters have returned, laden with deer, rabbits, and other forms of meat. They go to their houses and deposit the meat in a coolhouse, a hut we have that's kept at a special temperature. All of our extra meat is put here where it won't spoil. Tomorrow the soldiers will return, and we'll give them all the hunters caught today. I shudder as I think of the soldiers. Rough, cruel. I've heard they sometimes take youths from villages to work for the Dark kingdom as slaves. And they're heartless, most of them anyway. They kill for fun. They kill anyone who opposes them. My mother and father were among those who dared to do so. They paid dearly. I squeeze my eyes shut as I remember the screams, the soldier's laughs, me, huddled in a corner crying. Then a rough grunt from my father as a sword was plunged into his middle. The anguished cry of my mother as she rushed to defend him, then the twang of a bowstring and my mother sinking down to the ground, an arrow in her heart, with a sigh, her last breath. The soldiers left, and I rushed forward to my parents. My mother was already dead, but my father was holding onto life, watching me with glazed eyes. "River." He had moaned, then fell asleep. A sleep he would never wake up from. That night the few villagers who remained had left our ruined, burnt down town and joined this community. That was eight years ago. I rise to my feet and wrinkle my nose as one of the hunters passes my hut, a rabbit in his hand. Nature inhabitants understand animals, and don't like killing them, except for food. We never kill for fun, and the animals understand this, and live in harmony with us. When we do kill animals for food, we tend to pick the ones that are ill and won't live long, or the old, who had little time left anyway. We learned this technique from the wolves, a long time ago. But we had to kill many animals today, fro the Dark Kingdom. Just another reason to hate them. Slaughter of things that should live but can't, because of hardheartedness. With these thoughts in my head, I climb onto my bed and fall asleep.

Omegwolf9, how about when the soldiers come for the tribute, they decide to take me and you (River and Avis) with them as slaves?
