Thread Topic: I have a question for girls...

It makes me uncomfortable knowing they spent so much on you e_e'
I dunno, what's your guys' take on this? I'm a believer that it's the thought that counts xD -
I dont like it when ANYONE spends lots of money on me.. so I dont know how to answer your question XD
-
Same here xD I'm pretty piss ass poor so I feel bad when I can't return the favour.

As a guy, I feel obligated not to post. But as a person with an actual response, I'm ignoring my obligations and responding anyway.
I think that for a girl, the thought that counts and expensive gifts go hand in hand usually. The thought of a guy putting aside his money to get the "better" thing for her is part of "the thought". But hell, what do I know. For christmas I gave my gf a limited edition hand painted statue of a dragon. And she got me a picture of a dragon she made out of yarn in art class. (she has a thing for dragons)
And it doesnt matter to me where she got it or even what she got. It's the thought that counts and I love the personal value of it. And as for my gift to her, I'm no artist. I'm a psychologist. If I tried to make her something, it would probably end up a giant wad of crazy glue and popsicle sticks. I bought that for her because I knew it was what she liked. I picked it out myself and to her tastes. We both knew what would make each other happy. We both knew. Knowledge. Thought. It's the thought that counts. But even the thought, has many faces. -
@ Tingy, same, like I have this friend who's rich, and she always pays for stuff and always drives everywhere and I keep saying I can pay and I can drive us, but she just says "Nahh, I got my mom's credit card. and I dont want you to waste gas" :P But still it kinda bugs me, even though its her parents money and they have plenty of it.
-
Hurr same here about the rich friend bit e_e'
@Bob, I think it's nice to get a guy's perspective on this and I think you're right. :) Thanks for the input. -
I don't really like useless things like jewelry. So people usually get me pretty cheap things. Since I don't have a lot of money, I usually end up making all of my gifts
-
I think it's because they want to treat the girl like they're special.
I personally don't mind gifts, but I like ones with significance. Like if my friend gave me a card with a mustache on it (inside joke) I would be very happy. I don't really like getting things from friends if they have to pay for it though. :/ Then you feel bad if you can't really do something for them. I usually only get gifts for my friends if I see something I think they'll like. But every year there are a few special friends that I'll get a small something for around the holidays. -
I do that too madid x.x I don't mind jewelry though, I accept any gift happily.
I guess so Teresa xD -
I think it's how girls are portrayed these days. Television, internet and media in general flat-out say, "EXPENSIVE IS BETTER". Though it might not always be true, people get stuck in a rut: especially girls.
Girls also expect guys to pay for the date, gys to ask them out and, surprise, guys to spend their money on them just for the heck of it. It's not exactly realistic, but this is what girls expect.
It's like when you were little: I don't think any girl could tell me truthfully that she didn't play mermaid in the pool after watching the Little Mermaid or wish she had a tiara after watching Sleeping Beauty. Now, when you watch TV and see all the men on sit-coms falling head-over-heels for women and buying them flowers, earrings and chocolate left, right and center, we can't help but long for that feeling too.
Personally, I think it's the thought that counts. You can tell when someone did their shooping in a rush and only got you a gift because they felt obligated to: when I see someone who is genuinely excited to see me open or receive their present, you know they put some effort into it. That's what I appreciate. :) -
It's nice to get presents but they shouldn't spend all their money on it. :P
My friends and I always exchange scented hand sanitizers with eachother at christmas XD
i don't ever get presents from boys not even my uncles or my dad even pick out my gifts at christmas time. they have no idea about what a girly tween wants XD -
Dude, I prefer handmade presents always so much better. No one needs to spend money on me because the best presents are always the ones that come from the heart. *shot for corniness*
