Thread Topic: Why are my knees bruised
-
Boyz1016 NewbieA few days ago, I decided to run outside. I only ran a mile. Before I ran, my knees were perfectly fine. after I went inside, I noticed my knees were bruised. Any input?

Possibly, you could've stepped too hard.
Bruises happen when the blood tissue is broken. You could've possibly pressed your foot too hard on ground. Of course, there are other possibilities, such as a slip or maybe you were running too long and the blood tissue started to wear out.
I may be wrong, I'm not a doctor. But that's what I think that could've happened. -
Most likely its unrelated. You probably bumped your knees somewhere and forgot and over looked it. Maybe you thought your knees werent bruised before when they were, or associated the bruising with that day innacurately. In all likelihood, you got something like that wrong.
Its possible that you have chronic venous deficiency where your vessels can't handle the load of blood during cardio excerscise, but highly unlikely. It would come near looking like some intense vericose. Usually this happens when the veins have been weakened by disease or age, and you're young, and probably healthy so don't worry. -
Any other ideas? Because I know they were not bruised before and I didnt bump them... and I have been running and playing sports since I was super young... like 4, or something. Thanks for your input, you two.

maybe like your knee bones rubbed against your skin and made a bruise?

That seems to be some sort of ligament injury.
Maybe you didn't warm up before running. -
Sometimes people just get bruises on their knees, legs, and arms when they run. It's perfectly normal. When I was in cross country, I would get a couple bruises around my knees and elbows. It happened to my orthodontist too when she started to run.
