Vincent sat down in his usual chair. Margaret took a look in the cupboard. There was barely anything.
‘When was the last time you went shopping?’
‘Albert does the shopping.’
‘Of course he does. You can’t make your poor apprentice live off mac and cheese.’ -
"I really don't mind." Sebastian mumbled. He didn't like being called a 'poor apprentice'.
-
‘Of course you do, you don’t have to pretend you like working with Vincent,’ Margaret said, moving around the kitchen as she made breakfast.
Vincent chewed on his fingernails. -
Sebastian frowned. "You don't have to speak for me."
-
‘My nephew is coo-coo.’ Margaret emphasised her words with a whistle. ‘Ever since his parents, y’know, died-‘ She stage whispered “died”.
‘They’re not dead,’ Vincent mumbled.
‘- he’s been weird. Well, he’s been weird since he was a child, but whatever.’
‘I’m not weird.’ -
Sebastian just ignored her with a small, irritated sigh.
-
‘Vincent, shush. I don’t know how you work with him, Sebastian. It’s exhausting.’
-
"I don't mind it."
-
‘Then you’d be the first.’
-
"I guess I'm the first person then."
-
‘The first and only,’ Margaret said, placing a plate of dry, bland pancakes in front of them.
-
Sebastian shrugged, taking a bite of the pancakes.
-
Vincent drowned his in syrup to make eating them bearable. He hated Margaret’s food. Margaret watched disapprovingly.
-
Sebastian grimaced slightly at the bland taste, but kept eating them.
-
Margaret sat and ate her own.
