‘No, I’m not alright,’ Mason said, pulling off his pillow. ‘My boyfriend broke up with me and like three days later my childhood friend told me he loved me-‘
-
Chris cringed softly, exhaling shakily. “Right, yes,” he murmured, crossing his arms over his chest. “I- I really wasn’t trying to make you feel worse, I-I really shouldn’t have said that, I s-slipped up- I’m so sorry, Mason…”
-
Mason stood up and walked to the kitchen, rubbing his face with his hands. ‘I just don’t get why you thought it was a good idea to tell me- How do you just let something like that slip out?!’
-
“I don’t f---ing know!” Chris exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. “I’m just a f---ing idiot, that’s what…”
-
‘Don’t say that, you’re making me feel guilty,’ Mason muttered, rubbing his temples.
-
“I’m sorry! I’m not trying to make you feel bad,” Chris said, exhaling softly. “I just don’t want you to think I really am just trying to get back together with you-“ He paused, remembering their texts from last night.
-
Mason sat on a stool, groaning. ‘I know.’
-
“Mason, do- do you remember anything from last night?” Chris asked carefully, looking over at Mason.
-
Mason thought for a moment. 'I- A little bit... Why, did I say something bad?'
-
“You- Well, while we were- while we were texting, you- You may or may not have said you loved me-“ Chris said slowly, his hands shaking. “But, like- you were drunk! You- I’m sure you didn’t- y’know, know what you were saying- And maybe I’m remembering wrong!” He added quickly, looking down at the ground.
-
Mason froze. 'Sh-Show me the texts,' he said, trying to stop his voice from wobbling.
-
Chris pulled out his phone and pulled up their texts, bringing the phone over to Mason.
-
Mason took the phone and looked through their texts. 's---,' he muttered, handing the phone back.
-
“I- I’m sure you didn’t mean that, and- and I get it! I’m not mad or anything, just-“ Chris exhaled softly, pocketing his phone. “I’m sorry, I probably shouldn’t have even brought it up…”
-
‘It’s fine,’ Mason mumbled, rubbing his face with his hands. ‘Look, I don’t even know how I feel about you-‘
