Chris froze and turned bright red, lifting his head in a panic. “I- Wh- Noo, I- I’m not-“ He stuttered, a nervous look on his face.

Mason sat up, pulling away from Chris. ‘Chris-‘

“I- God, I’m sorry, I- I didn’t mean to- I-I’m not trying to say that to- to make you feel guilty, I swear-“

Mason stood up and walked into the kitchen, burying his face in his hands. ‘God- That’s why you sent that text! You wouldn’t have done that if you didn’t like me-‘ He laughed in exasperation and sat down on the stall, rubbing his face. ‘Chris, you can’t still love me-‘

Chris exhaled shakily, keeping his back to Mason as he hugged his legs to his chest. “I- I do…” He murmured, burying his face in his knees.

Mason laughed in disbelief. ‘No you don’t, why would you love me?!’

“Because you’re you! You’re f---ing amazing, Mason-“ Chris spoke shakily, tears filling his eyes.

Mason buried his face in his hands. ‘God, I should’ve known- Is that the only reason you’ve been helping me? Because you want to get back together?’

“No! No, God, of course not,” Chris spoke quickly, turning around to look at Mason. “I couldn’t give a s--- whether we got back together! You were my friend first, above any feelings I have for you. I just want to be there for you again, I want to be your friend again, Mason-“

Mason wiped his eyes, trying not to cry. ‘Right, yeah-‘

“Please, believe me, Mason-“ Chris spoke, moving to stand. “I- I promise, I’m not doing this try and get you to date me- I- God, I’m so sorry…”

Mason turned away from him, resting his arms on the counter and burying his head in them. ‘I-It’s fine- I’m sorry, I can’t deal with this right now.’

“I- I can leave if you want me to,” Chris murmured softly, staring down at the floor.

‘Yes please,’ Mason mumbled, rubbing his face. ‘I’m sorry, I just need time to think about this-‘
