Briar grinned, giggling softly as his pouting boyfriend. He looked forward, humming softly as they rode through the forest and down the somewhat visible pathway. He slowed to a stop for a moment before turning and riding off the path, gesturing for Lawrence to follow.
-
Lawrence followed him, directing his horse behind Briar.
-
Briar soon slowed down, stopping at a makeshift fence with an unlit lantern sat on the post. “The next part is a little bit of a climb, so we have to leave the horses here,” he spoke, climbing off of Glory and tying her to the makeshift fence.
-
Lawrence dismounted and grabbed the reins, tying Cameron up too. ‘Where, exactly, are we going?’ he asked with a nervous chuckle, following him.
-
“Up here,” Briar said with a giggle, pointing over to a steep liff-like wall with a ladder laid against it. “So, the whole story behind how me and my mother found this place,” he spoke walking over to the ladder and climbing it. “We were very bored and Father was away for a work trip, so we thought we’d explore the forest some.”
-
Lawrence followed, trying not the slip on any moss as he slowed climbed up after Briar. ‘How old were you at the time?’ he asked.
-
“Hmm, maybe eleven or twelve?” Briar replied. “Oh wait, I forgot the basket!” He exclaimed with a laugh, climbing back down the ladder when Lawrence moved away from it. He came back up after a few moments, a basket in hand. “There we go~ I swear, I’d lose my head if it weren’t attached to my shoulders,” he said, giggling as he grabbed Lawrence’s hand and leading him down the slope of the hill.
“So, we had gotten bored and figured we’d go exploring, when we found the cliff. We didn’t climb up to the top hangover initially, but we found a way up the side. That way kind of got overgrown with poison ivy, though, so that’s why we made the ladder~” -
Lawrence smiled, ruffling Briar’s hair as he listened to him talk. ‘That’s amazing,’ he said, squeezing his hand. ‘What do we need to basket for, though?’
-
“For a picnic~” Briar replied, smiling, “and that’s not the end of the story, my love~ When we went down the hill, we followed this creek that led to a small pond that surrounded what became mine and my mother’s little hiding spot,” he explained, pointing at the small creek that streamed downhill. He led Lawrence down a little way and they soon arrived, standing in front of the large willow tree.
-
‘You packed a picnic?’ Lawrence asked with a small chuckle. ‘You’re adorable.’ He wrapped an arm around Briar as they walked and followed his gaze to the pond.
-
“Yeah, I thought it would be nice~” Briar said with a smile, walking over to the base of the tree. He set down the basket and opened it, pulling out a small blanket he put in it. He unfolded it and laid it on the ground, sitting down on it.
-
Lawrence sat down next to him, crossing his legs on the blanket. ‘What food did you bring?’
-
“Some fruit and other snacky foods,” Briar said, pulling out some berries and plates covered in thin cloths. He pulled out a small bottle of wine, smirking. “Stole ‘em from the kitchen~”
-
Lawrence laughed, ruffling Briar’s hair. ‘Thank god, I haven’t had alcohol in the longest time,’ he chuckled, wrapping an arm around Briar’s waist.
-
“Now we can make it a real party~” Briar teased, pulling out two small wine glasses. He opened the bottle, pouring them both a drink and handing one glass to Lawrence.
